First PS3 game: Call of Duty 4 or Uncharted?

Planning to pick up a PS3 this weekend and looking for some thoughts on these 2 games.

First, let me say that on-line play is not very important to me. So I know from what I've read COD4 is a big on-line game....just not sure I'll be into that much on-line gaming initially.

Really, I'm looking for a good 1 player experience....and want something that will make me say "wow" a few times and something that will show off the PS3 graphics.

Sorta leaning toward Uncharted as it's received strong reviews and looks like one of the best games graphically I've seen.

Just wondering if I should be paying more attention to COD4....or some other game.

It sounds like you should get uncharted by how you describe what your looking for. But I have to tell you that I never played online multiplayer much, I just didn't like it. Then I got COD4. Fast forward 6 months and I have logged in 10days and 3 hrs(over 250 hrs) on COD4 online. COD single player is short but really fun with intense action. If you get uncharted now I would a least give COD a rent to try it out.

Depends what your more interested in...Uncharted is hands down the best graphic game out right now, period, its not even close, the tree's rocks, plants, everything looks like what an amazon rain forest should be, even after you swim your clothes get wet, so if your looking for graphics definetly go to uncharted. just my piece, :)

You guys pretty much confirmed what I thought.

I'm just not going to have the kind of time to get into heavy on-line play....wish I did but I know it won't happen.

However, I can find a couple hours here or there and just want a game I can pop in and have some fun with.

Plus, I want something that looks awesome so I can go for the "wife factor" and say...."look how awesome this looks". She basically thinks the PS3 is just another stupid game system so I want something that might impress.

Honestly, my favorite game ever was Resident Evil 4....and I'm eagerly waiing for RE 5. Kinda get the feeling that Uncharted might sorta play a little bit like RE4 in that you might feel like your playing a movie.

I'm in the same boat as this poster. I've never been one to subscribe to the whole mutliplayer experience. I skip over anything regarding multiplayer in reviews as I couldn't give less of a crap how good/bad the experience is, and it has never once effected my purchase of a game outside of Guild Wars (for obvious reasons) as my chances of experiencing it are somewhere between slim and none. No multiplayer? Don't care. Great Multiplayer? Don't care. Worst Multiplayer ever? Survey says........don't care. I bought the Orange Box, tried Team Fortress 2 once, though "huh, this pretty decent", and haven't bothered with it again since. The only reason I tried the multiplayer portion of CoD4 was because I already owned it and wanted to see what all the hooplah was about. But something about CoD4 multiplayer has kept me coming back again and again.

Also, along the lines of the single player campaign, I think that previous installments drew me in more, but many, many other games that I've played have fallen short of drawing me in as much as CoD4 did. The single player campaign, although arguably a bit short, was an absolute blast, and I've gone back for more many times since. It still has a few of the classic Call of Duty moments that really make you think "Holy s*** that was awesome!" after they pass. I would highly recommend it to everyone.

Call of Duty 4, online is good and you can repeat the game from easy-veteran.

Uncharted is good but...it won't last 2 weeks of gaming.

When I would sit down to play a game on the PS3, my wife would actually ask me to play Uncharted. She thought the game looked nice and that the story was pretty good. She really wanted to know what would happen next and how it would all end. I just beat it this past weekend. Great game.

the thing is about your secondary post is that if you only have a couple of hours, then cod4 is better game for it. you can pick it up for an hour (and its free on the ps3) and thoroughly enjoy it.

yup uncharted if u want ur wife to enjoy the game as well, im not married (only 19) however the same thing happened with my sister and other friends the story is great and the writing is very wity, believe me ur wife will enjoy watching u play this game.

from what i see that you already know, you made your mind already and didnt have the need of asking in this forum :?

If you're looking for a really long lasting single player experience I would say wait it out for Fallout 3, LittleBIGPlanet, or DeadSpace. Or if you really want something with a strong story now then go for MGS4.

Based on what you've said, out of CoD4, and Uncharted, go for Uncharted. But a game like Fallout 3 would last you much longer, and if you're more into the RPG experience then it would more likely suite you.
