I'm just curious if ps3 have any common problems like xbox 360 does. Do I need to be extra carefull about putting it next to heat and blah blah. It's used so I want to take extra special care of it. What are common problems if any?

There are a million threads on this just make sure it's ventilated and don't let dust build up. Search the forum for "Taking care of your PS3" or something of that nature.

PS3 is solidly built, i dunno about the other but mine never had issues, you could practically leave it turned on for weeks & the console won't heat up ...& even if it does, it'll only heat up just a little bit

As with all electronics of this nature heat and dust and moisture are your biggest enemies. Set it up in a large space so it may ventilate easily. Most the heat vents out the right side, so at least make sure it has room to breathe on the right side. Don' let dust build up on it. Dust it of every now and then while it is turned OFF (so it doesn't suck up any free floating dust particles). Some people even go so far as to cover it up when it is not in use. Thats a pretty good idea. Obviously, you shouldn't set it up in any rooms that tend to get very humid or moist. Don't let any AC vents or anything blow right on top of it because they do tend to blow out moist air. I had a TV set up right beneath an AV vent at my mom's house and didn't realize it was leaking moisture into it until it was already fried in a matter of about 3 weeks. So, yeah, thats a big no no. Anyway, other than that the PS3 is a freakin' TANK! Just beware those three factors and you should have no problems at all.

idk if the YLOD is common but I'm inclined to mention it since it has happened to me, I read third parties mention that most of the time its because too much heating and cooling of the motherboard and something needing to be re soldered (I'm not really techie so I might have said something wrong) Well just keeping it well ventilated and cooled will prevent that (I also heard some cases are just because a defect) ^---Not entirely sure of the cause and prevention, just what I heard :P

i have to admit that the first killzone on ps2 was absolute garbage but after getting a ps3 and playing the killzone 2 demo.......I have to say the graphics right off the bat a freaking amazing. Best I have ever seen. They really stepped up game play and intensity too. Awesome!

Some models seem to have a problem with the optical drive dying. Two of my friends bought 40 GB models and within a month they both stopped reading discs. On the other hand another friend of mine has had a 20 gig since launch and it has been thrown against the wall twice and has cracks all through the case and still functions perfectly. I have a 2.5 year old 80 gig with BC and it has frozen on occasion but is still going strong other than that. It is guessed that the failure rate of the PS3 is around 3-5% (the average for electronics) and the failure rate of the 360 is 16-20%.

Nah, that game is ok but there are better titles out there. Uncharted and Metal Gear Solid 4 are much better in my opinion. Also, I really like the Resistance franchise. R2 has amazing gameplay and R1 has a great story. If you have BC I recommend playing through God of War 1& 2 if you haven't already as well as the original installments of the Metal Gear Solid series. Both Motorstorm titles are great. 2 is superior in my opinion for having 4 player split screen. Little Big Planet is ok I guess, but it is difficult with local co-op. Heavenly Sword is good for a play through and Ratchet and Clank is pretty entertaining. Avoid Haze at all cost and that's PS3 101. Have fun with a great system and don't neglect your Blu-Ray player.

Thanks for the opinions. I'm not into all that stuff though. I have MGS4. I got it with the ps3 I just got. Other then that I only like racing, FPS, RTS and Flight games. I don't like rpg's and i hate Jrpg's orany kind of anime games. I also don't like the adventure games like heavenly sword and conan type stuff. My xbox is still my main gaming system but I'm absolutely loving my ps3 and it's new titles. My xbox is my main system because I'm a big clanster and my brother and friends all play xbox so my heart is in the multiplayer because thats all I play. Currently I'm playing Battlefield Bad Company and Red alert 3. I'm having a ton of fun playing my ps3 though. I now own every current gen system out there lol. DS lite, PSP, WII, I have (4) xbox 360's and now a PS3. I'm loving it! GAME ON!

It's good that your a first timer. Heres my advice. Hold on to $15, and get Marvel Vs Capcom 2 when it hits PSN. You pretty much won't need anyother fighter after that (if your a FG afficonado like myself)

No offense but fighters are like my most hated game genre out there. Especially Marvel vs Capcon. lol But thank you. I only like FPS, Racing, Flight Combat sims and Strategy games for the most part. I did kinda like the god of war series on ps2 and psp but not something I really get into.

Don't enclose it and make sure it has at least 6 inches of space around it and clean the dust out of the vents every month or so. And don't drop it off

of a building. I have no idea how people break them, I have had 3 forever and they all work flawlessly.
