Do you still only have to back up game saves? Does it save downloaded games from the PSN? Wireless settings? Pictures/Music? I can't imagine it saves all that, thats what the hard drive is for.maaskesr
That's one thing I would still like to know. Can you back up games you have bought from the PSN?
Because I'm considering upgrading my PS3.

Yep, i backed up my 2nd PS3's files on a 8GB Kingston USB Flash Stick and when i installed the new hard drive and restored what i've backed. I saw that all my themes, demos, and PSN Games i purchased where they belong. And i youtube'd how to replace the hard drive. VERY easy, although the blue screw was a pain to get out, i stripped it to hell. ohwell
Yea I've heard that specific screw can be easily stripped.
I'll youtube it like you said.
Any specific hard drive I should get? Brand wise?
I want at least 300gigs though.

Yeah man, it was stripped so bad i had to use plyers to get it out, haha. I think Seagate is the official hard drive they use. Atleast thats what it said when i pulled out the hard drive from my PS3. So i'd go with Seagate.
it dose improve the pop up rate of textures ingame and the load times are a few seconds faster. thats what i mean by flawless. and i have liquid cooling im my PS3 but thats besides the point. and this is a flawless easy way for someone to use as a reference to upgrade HDD.zeferU
It only improves the load times if your willing to buy a HDD with a higher RPM. If you bought a 5400 I sorely doubt the times would improve. Only with a 7200 can you see a difference and even then it's only a couple of seconds.

I have Western Digital, so any HD would work.
I just upgraded my 60GB PS3 today with a WD 320GB HDD. Making the HDD swap is easy but fighting those cheap screws was the tuff part. I got the first blue head screw out no problem but I stripped the hell out of the four screws in the HDD caddie, luckily I was able to use a vice grip to twist them out.
As for data on my old HDD I only backed up my game saves because I just have a 32MB pen drive. I just re-downloaded all the demos and PSN games that I had before. The only problem is when it comes to video content those can only be downloaded once which is totally BS... So now I have to buy another copy of Firefly season 1 ep. 1... I'm glade I didn't go wild a "buy" a bunch of movies and TV shows cause all that money would've been flushed down the toilet... I just bought the one TV show so all I'm out is $1.99 but still that is BS Sony...
