question
What does it do for you? What do you get out of lending you CPU power besides knowing your helping cell research a such. Do you get points, or PSN money??

The PS3 only uses 200 watts when folding. This is not terrible.

I know what you mean the system doesn't use very much electricty when folding (I'm only at 235 units completed).
There are some that have up in the thousands.
A new PS3 owner here, so be kind, but what is folding? (I don't get to open my PS3 till Christmas, so I have ZERO experience with the machine yet.....)NoWareMan9
It's a little program that is linked to Stanford University that you go into and it helps do cell research on protein folding. Takes afew hoursto complete one, most people do it while they are asleep, or at work or school
Does it come already on the system, or is it an add on?NoWareMan9
It just sort of appeard there after an update (i forgot which one) but there should be an icon on the XMB for it and I think you do a short installation then after that you can start folding

It's very easy to install and use once your connected to the internet with your PS3. I think there is a tab in the XMB now, once your connected it may do a update from the 1.1 firmware to the 1.2 firmware though.
Here lately I have wondered if by folding it is not only helping man kind but it could be helping each individual PS3 because for some strange reason the people that fold all the time seem to have less problems with firmware updates.

That's the reason I said seem to have less problems, I know it's not a firm rule of thumb. But then by maintaining a fairly constant heat in the system puts a lot less stress on the electronics from the expansion and contraction of turning the system on and off.

I think you have a good point there. I fold all the time, I leave my PS3 on 24/7 and I have never had a problem. If im not gaming, im folding. Its been on 24/7 more or less for about 9 months now, only turning it off when we had some windy days for fear of the power going out.
