When your not using it you can turn it on and you can help Stanford research possible cure to diseases. I try to turn it on at least once a week for two hours or so.

They do there research on diffrent kinds of protein strains so what they do is use the ps3 to run mathematical calculations on diffrent protein cells. So basically the more processors (computers and ps3's) that are donating power to the research. The faster they do research and the faster they can cure related diseases like certain forms of cancer. So your ps3 runs these processes for them and sends the calculations back to the computers at Stanford.

And they can harness your PS3 from anywhere in the world. And your privacy is not violated at all. And it is a worthwhile cause, you don't need to leave your TV on, just the PS3 and it just saves where it was when you want to play a game or watch a movie.

They don't "take over" your PS3. It's not a conspiracy.

All that happens is, you download the application (thats all it is) then when you run the software, it will download a file (which contains a protein) from Stanford, then the application, using Cell, "Folds" the protein to help them research what causes different diseases.

You can find out more at their website.

The F@Hdoesn't use hardly any HDD space but uses the cell to calculate the proteins. Another thing is the PS3 can process one flop of data in about 10 hours where a PC takes about 30 days to do the same. Also not only does the research help with cancer it helps with several other diseases as well.

LOL...when/if you or someone you know gets diagnosed with cancer...you'll see the benefit of helping.

This is absurd - Folding@Home does not fill up your hard drive nor use personal information nor ruin your PS3. All you do is download a packet, process it when the PS3 is idle, then when done it sends the info back up to the server and gets a new packet. It's distributed computing, and it's been around for years. The PS3 is just an excellent source for it because it is such a powerful CPU.

Well put. Owning one and not doing it is pretty ridiculous.

Risky?....posting on random web forums is more risky than Folding w/ your ps3. Let's all try and put ourselves in a cancer patients shoes and ask ourselves...would i want joe down the street to let his ps3 fold proteins in hopes for a cure for me? I'd love to hear the person who says no. Everyone who thinks this is worthless...Welcome to the real world where you aren't the only person living in it.

doolies

Dude Home does not even take out a Megabite out ofyour Hard Drive and you use it if you want to if not then no if you dont want to get it then dont get it, or actually everyone has it lol just dont use it if you dont want to. But rember when you are older and if you have some kind of disease that Home is trying to figure out proteins for rember that you had the chance to maybe help with it and maybe your help would be everything they needed to complete a cure for that disease
