folding@home only runs when you are NOT playing a game, or using the PS3 in any way.

If you are someone who switches off your PS3 when your're not using it then it is not worth downloading f@h

BUT I would suggest that you consider it as f@h does a lot of good work on trying to work out cellular structures and causes of diseases such as cancer and alzheimers and SONY specifically linked up with them to offer the remote global processing power that is provided by owners of PS3s.

Did you scare the spelling and grammar away? :P

Just kidding, buddy. You're right; only the folk who've been affected know the true value of such research. Cancer claimed my grandfather and affected my mum also. :(

Not true. I know many people who are not affected by cancer that still care about the research to cure it. It's called empathy. But not everyone has empathy. As such I think anyone who has a PS3 and Internet connection that doesn't fold at least once should get cancer maybe that will change their minds a bit.

Oh pish posh; don't be so pedantic. You know what I mean. People who've had, or been affected by, cancer will be more empathetic. For people who've not, there's always the possibility of the it'll-never-happen-to-me attitude.

That sir is plain wrong! You shouldn't wish such a thing on anyone! I don't understand those either (even though I was never affected by it), but you should never wish someone to suffer just because you don't understand him or her

Listen, I know it sounds mean, but some people wouldn't understand unless they are affected by it, just like what the person stated above (and I'm sorry about your mum), which I don't completely agree with. I work with people everyday (I'm in finance) and let me tell you, some people needs to suffer in order to understand empathy at all. When you work for rich selfish, self-centered people that look down on everyone else (some of the things they say about poor people); Trust Me, wishing they had cancer is the least you could do to them.

I know what F @ H is and my grandmother was taken by cancer. Why I think it's useless is because NOTHING will ever come of it. You will be long dead before they/ IF they find a real cure to cancer and I doubt it will be because of some college student created app. I don't think people need to praise an application that "folds" proteins because they think they are contributing to science and research because they are doing very little in the long run.

You have no clue what you're talking about xD Any of those proteins have a very small (but existing) chance to bring an very important step to the research -.-'Oh, and even if it needs years and won't maybe affect you,it's pretty selfish to take it as a reason, as you childs may be affected by it? Anyway, fact is, it doesn't harm you system, so where's your problem?

My problem lies in those who feel they are contributing to this because they turn their PS3's on and walk around toting they are "making a difference" They pretend they have this badge of humanity when they are full of it!

I'm sorry about you're grandmother, but thinking nothing will come of it is just plain wrong. This wasn't some college student's app. It's the University of Stanford. Just b/c the results of the research doesn't come in your or my lifetime doesn't mean it won't help someone in the future. Doing something and hoping for the best is better than doing nothing and criticizing it. You might want to read about it http://folding.stanford.edu/ first.

@thegame1980: If you had a choice of ending cancer when you died, would you say no because it doesn't affect you? That's gotta be the most ignorant post I've ever read on any forum, ever.

Keep digging away dude, the more you talk, the deeper the hole gets as your level of ignorance and immaturity become more apparent.... "Why I think it's useless is because NOTHING will ever come of it. You will be long dead before they/ IF they find a real cure " This ones probably the best. Please tell me your just a little punk snot whos like 9 and just trying to get a rise out of folks, because thegame1980 - I hope your name is not telling of your age because at 28 you should not be so ridiculously devoid of intelligence.

I mostly run it on my PS3 when my room is cold since after an hour or two it actually can raise the temp in the room by a few degrees lol. Also sometimes i like it since i can listen to my music on my PS3 and put both the PS3 and TV on a timer and i dont need to worry about turning them off.
