Is there a big difference between madden 09 and madden 08? I am considering getting a madden game, I am not a NFL expert I just know some of the basic rules of the game. Played madden 2001 on the pc long way back as the buccaneers. I don't have a favourite team or player so I might want to start watching some NFL games.

I am usually a "soccer" which we, the rest of the world, call football as well but since I haven't bought a sports game other than PES/FIFA for almost the last decade I was considering madden and NBA 2k9.

So back to the point, do the differences between 09 and 08 justify the price tag??

there's rarely a significant difference between sports games a year apart. +/-, you're paying for a roster update

Well the roster is updated, that is the biggest thing.I suggest just getting Madden 09.From what I heard,Madden 08 had problems such as glitches that mad it hard to play in areas.

lol, NFL should be changed to ARL.

American Rugby League.

Rugby's more badass anyway; they don't wear pads.

thx, I think along with basketball, football is really interesting. On the other hand I couldn't really get into baseball and hockey. How on earth do people follow that little puck on the ice? I watch the highlights everytime on cnn and never ever have I properly seen a goal scored. I just wait for that little lamp on top of the goal to flash.

Scianix, Rugby is brutal fullstop. These guys rarely have teeth. Doesn't seem like fun to me. I know Football is also violent but at least there are set plays and runs ... etc while in rugby people just LOVE to pile up.

Lol, I am glad I ruined someone else's day :p. I try to platinum the game at the moment so I am not getting so many kills online (trying to get all the medals and ribbons by having side arm kills or melee) after I platinum I will be back to kick some behinds :). Oh btw if you're regularly on killzone add me to your psn friends list okay?

(GASP):o NEVER! the NFL is A W E S O M E!:p and to answer your question the graphics get a boost, the rosters get updated, and there is usually tweaks with the gameplay. In short you're paying for a slightly enhanced version of the previous effort.

Madden 09 from 08 is probably the biggest jump since the 04 to 05 one. 09 is much more stable than 08 and does not have the annoying delay when calling plays and such. I would say it's geared a lot better (playing calling screens, rewind features and etc.) for people that aren't well adapted to the more advance intricacies of the sport.

I agree. Madden 09 plays a lot better and the players are much more responsive. Madden 08 feels like it belongs on a 16 bit system sometimes.

madden 10 comes out in 4 months i would hold off.. 08 i believe had a turnover problem where you would fumble the ball all day and had to play around with the settings.. 09 was eh, i don't like where there headed with the franchise.. the older maddens were so much better, but the AI is so dumb and i think for 10 ea was saying that they addressed it.. (could be wrong was in a forum with a link but didn't care to click on the link)

biggest difference between madden 08 and Madden 09, aside from the roster update, is the graphical upgrade it got... that and add in some other features and you got madden 09.. (small ones like being able to rewind a play *only once* and try it again.. again nothing big)

Considering you can get Madden 08 used for $10 at EB / Gamestop and Madden 09 is about $35, just pick up the 08 version. If you really enjoy it, you can always get the new one (Madden 10) that comes out in August.

Ok, one last thing. Which teams should I watch in the NFL? I heard that the Giants are good but I am looking for teams who are technically superior. I don't care much about results. Just like Arsenal in soccer or Barcelona.
