I know we are talking 5-6 years from now til the next playstation comes out but i was looking through some of my old ps1 and ps2 games and i thought of something. Now that the ps3 has abandoned backward compatability and sales haven't been hurt one bit, do you think that on the next system they might do away with BC all together?

Hard to tell but PS3 is a pretty damn monster so I do not think the difference will be THAT big as from PS2 to PS3. Saying that they will probably make it compatible as this gives you a extra $$ for the old games beeing sold.

On the other hand. They may release something so strong that it simply wont be possible :D

Interesting question. I think the ps4 will be advanced enough to easily play ps2 games with no hardware support, so they may as well include ps1 and ps2 BC. (Kinda like how even the 40gb has nearly 100% ps1 BC). As for ps3 BC, it depends. If the hardware architecture doesn't change dramatically, it may be easy to include it without increasing the cost. The ps3 has such radical architecture that ps2 BC requires some combination of hardware support and software emulation. Perhaps the ps4 architecture will not be so radically different.
