I own both, truthfully I have only played GH3 once since I got Rock Band (which was when my insturments failed and where shipped away)... If you have friends that are not shy, its great... but it is not really made for long 4 hour gaming sessions by yourself... If you have people willing to play it, It is the single best party game ever made, providing your instruments workgorillashadysadly i agree with this guy i havent played GH3 ever since i got Rockband and when i did i found out that rockband makes u suck at GH just cause its easyer and diff controller but i had to move from expert down to hard on GH just cause Rockband made me suck at it
Rock Band is great, best multiplayer game out there, IMO. Also, if you want to play the drums solo, that is loads of fun also.
Most people say that Rock Band isn't worth it if you don't get to play with people, but I don't get to play with people too often and I still have loads of fun. Maybe it's best with people, but I enjoy it just as much by myself. As for the reliability of the peripherals, I've only had mine for a week so I can't say. I will say that I've owned Guiter Hero III and Rock Band, and I much perfer the Stratocaster that comes with Rock Band over the Les Paul that comes with Guiter Hero III.
I seem to be in the minority when I say that as I see complaints all of the time about the Stratocaster, but I love it. Aside from the look of the guitar, I much perfer the fret buttons on the Strat. They are flush with the neck and they have a nice click to them when pushed down. The strum bar is also silent, where as the Les Paul's strum bar has a very loud click sound. I also play better with the Strat, much more so, actually. There isn't a thing that I like about the Les Paul more then the Strat.
For my money, Rock Band is the far better game, especially because content is added on a weekly basis. I do believe that both are worth owning because I really like some of the heavier songs on Guitar Hero. If you have fun with these types of games then go for it.
well, i already have gh3 but was wonderin whether it is worth about £110 for rockband, i know it would be a rly gd laugh with mates but i've heard the instruments are unreliable, so should i fork ou the money for it? is it much better than gh3?w1lk1nson

yeah this guy pretty much nails it, and to top it off about the reliability. ive had mine since christmas and i was worried that my peripherals would let me down as well, but they still work like new. i think maybe just the first batch were messed up. i havent really heard any complaining lately, so maybe they fixed the problem. one thing i have noticed w/ the drums, my drums anyway, is that if u dont hit near the center of the pad then it doesnt always register. it will sometimes, but not all the time. if u hit it in or near the center though it works every time

yeah the songs arent as hard on rock band, but actually u have to be more precise on ur timing on rockband. u have alot more leeway in gh3 as to when u hit the notes. in rock band u pretty much have to hit the notes right when they cross the point at the bottom of ur screen, just like in gh2, which makes sense bc harmonix made both gh2 and rockband. i can get like 80% on through the fire and flames on hard in gh3, but i know that if that song was in rock band or gh2 w/ the same note pattern, i wouldnt even get 70%. so yeah the songs arent as hard in rockband, but u have to be much more precise on ur timing.
My girlfriend and I had GH3 for a few weeks before Rock Band came out. When we saw Rock Band coming out, we traded in GH3 as we had beaten everything already and bought Rock Band. It was pretty cool, but the controls feel a little stiff to me.
I don't know if it's because I play real guitars, but these games like this have always felt kind of odd to me. The timing just doesn't seem right. I suppose it's because most of the time you're not actually hitting every single not that is in the song, and I'm used to hitting all notes on a real guitar.
Overall though, we still have alot of fun with Rock Band. My gilfriend doesn't care for the drums too much, so I play those and she plays the guitar. We have our band (Wal-Mart Hooligans we are called ;-P) and tour on the game. I think that is probably the best standout feature on Rock Band over GH3 is the multiplayer career mode.
Another thing I'd consider before buying is your choice of music. Being into extreme metal and the likes, GH3 has a better suited track for my musical taste, but the classic rock songs on Rock Band are good as well.
Anyway, I hope you're happy with whatever you decide to get!
I find Rock Band to be the FAR superior game, and have only played GHIII since, when I shipped my Strat back because the strummer broke.
I did have fun with GH III but found the note patterns to be what they were, just for difficulty's sake.
Being a guitarist in the real world, I find Rock Band to be much more intuitive (which I suppose makes it a bit easier, because the note patterns tend to make logical sense).
Also I like that, in Rock Band, if a song's guitar part isn't that complicated on the actual track, they let the song not be that complicated on harder leves.Take RHCP's Dani California: the trick is to have your best players on Bass and Drums. The Guitar is your Savior in reserve, because the guitar isn't that hard.
On the Stones' "Gimme Shelter" the drums never get more difficult than they need to be, because it's Charlie Watt's, not Keith Moon. The Guitar is harder on that one, as you're playing both Keith Richards' AND Mick Taylor's parts.
By all means Rock Band is worth the cash.

yeah that part's not too hard. u should see them live though. their guitarist, john frusciante, is amazing live. they put on a damn good show. but i may be a little biased, because i just love the chili peppers
Rock Band is the better deal. You get more for your money, the downloadable content is cheaper and new songs come out more often.
I wasn't a big fan of GH3, number two is better IMO.

My man, my post was, in no way, to be a slight on the Chili's. I dig them (esp the older stuff), and think Frusciante is a beast. I merely use that song as an example, as it has a relatively simple guitar part with other instruments being far more difficult, as opposed to, say, the Weezer song (Hush, Weezer fans, I like them, and that song too) which is pretty much easy all the way around...
