With the latest report of European PS3 not being "fully" backwards compatible unlike the Japanese and North American versions. Is this the "last straw" ? Has SONY really done it this time?

Let us know, I personally being from North America thinks if this is so it will affect us all.

I don't understand what all the fuss is about. The PS3 is already over 97% BC. I am sure there are a few Europe titles that don't work. All this is saying is that, if certain Europe titles don't work, SCEE is not going to spend resources trying to fix games. The PAL PS3's are still going to get firmware upgrades like everybody else that will fix some games. Let's wait to see which games actually have a problem before saying how bad this is. If there is only 5 games that don't work, and those 5 games were the 5 worst selling titles, does it really matter that they don't work?

Bah!  I just spent like 10 minutes crafting a post in the "Get Bent Sony!" thread and it got locked. Grrr.

Anyway, I don't understand what all the crying is about either.  I take it nobody in EU that's buying a PS3 has experienced the joy and wonderment that is the 360's BC and the constant required updates on new titles.  I bought Crackdown on street release date and had to update it before I could play it.  I can't tell you how many times I've had to update Gears.

I agree with waiting to see.
But SONY these days seem to be intent on being stubborn at our cost

Seriously, I think most people who said they won't buy it anymore are just X360/Wii fanboys.

1. It will be fixed, just like it was in NA.
2. MOST games will still work
3. Since you already have a PS2, just keep it 3 months longer, that's more than it took for it to be fixed in NA.
4. All big games will surely be Sony's priority, so you only have chances of having problems if you like some darker games that no one played.
5. The PS3 is released with Resistance, Motorstorm, Oblivion, FEAR and more. You'll have enough on your hands to keep of the PS2 THE game you want to play if fixed.

I'm sure that Sony will bring a firmware update which will fix the backwards compatibility issue in Europe.

I have been waiting for PS3 for over a year and you think this small issue is going to change my mind :|

1. Sony don't seem to care about Europe or they wouldn't have done it in the first place 2. MOST games won't work. Hence the "limited". 3. Some people have to sell their PS2 to be able to afford a PS3 -_- 4. Sometimes the games hardly anyone played are the best. Psychonaughts and Beyond Good And Evil anyone? 5. If you jut spend $850 on a console you've hardly got any spare money lying about to purchase $90 games.

1. Is that why EU gets the best launch lineup and the largest supply of PS3's?
2. How do you figure that?
3. Ok, there's nothing saying your particular library won't be BC from launch.  Plus there's BC improvements coming in the future.
4. And?
5. EU is not selling PS3's in US$ so nobody over there is paying those prices.

You bring up very valid points but I'm not sure your point of view will be seen in this thread. I bet most of the people that voted aren't even from Europe.

1. They most probably have other things on their hands. They said it would be fixed for NA, it was fixed. They said it will be fixed for Europe, it will be fixed.
2. The real article says "less games will be compatible than in NA and Japan", considering 98% of the games are compatible, if 75% of the games are compatible, it will be far less games, but still MOST games.
3. A PS2 is barely over 100$ new, they could sell it for 50$ at most, they might as well work 5 more hours and voila.
4. True.
5. You can't compare money just like that, as there's many other factors, such as the cost of life and the average salary. Anyways, if you buy a PS3 at launch, you probably know that you need to buy a game or two with it at launch. If someone forgot that, then why did he want a PS3? People who get a PS3 at launch have the money to afford a game or two as well.

I live in america, and I have to say I wish my ps3 had software emulation, because of the future (which if I remember correctly I think a firmware update is supposed to allow all ps3's to move over to the software emulation eventually).  Its an all around better way of handling it, because they will be able to upgrade and update a lot easier.  Upconversion will be nice...i think this is a good thing.  It kind of stinks that at launch not all the games will be supported, but it was the same here in america, in fact a lot of games looked so bad you couldn't even play them...and they fixed it, and sony will fix this.  Thats the bottom line.  Everyone is talking like this is the end all, it will never be fixed.  It will, updates will happen, and you will be able to play your games.  Thats it.....

I'll buy it anyway... Sincerly... BC is a great thing... but if you really need it = you have PS2 games = you have a PS2... I think it's pretty rare that someone buy a new console to play old games... I've a Wii and it's BC with the GC but sincerly I don't care to buy GC games... Fact is that I've zero PS1 games also if the PS2 is fully BC with the PS1... just my two cents...
