Trying to manage my space on the HDD until I get a new hard drive. I noticed that the save game files don't really take up that much space, just a few megs each. But the Game Data files take up 3 -4 gigs each!

What happens if you delete these but keep the game saves? Does it just ask you to create a new one the next time you play? Or will you be stuck with longer loading times the next time you play? Anyone know?

only Oblivion takes 3-4 gigs.  The other games are way less than a gig.  I think Call of Duty 3 was even less than a mb.

Depends on what games you have, VF5 is nearly 3 gigs as well. But anyway, has anyone tried deleting these before to see what effect it has on gameplay?

If I'm not correct, I think those are just the game data installations. If you just back up the game saves themselves you'll be ok. It'll just install again I guess.

Kinda like when you delete a PC game, get a new hard drive and install the game over again.

This is correct. If you delete the game data and replay the game, it will be loaded back on. Don't delete the game saves.

are you taking about game saves or game data?  they are two different things.  some games allow you to install the game to the HDD for faster loading.  I believe VF5 is one of those games(Genji and RR7 are two others).  the game saves would be small like 50MB, but installing the game to the HDD or caching data to the HDD will be much larger files.

Yeah, you can safely delete gama data utility, however, do so if you're done playing that particular game for a while. I did this with Oblivion because I rented it twice, I deleted the data after my first rental (but kept the save file obviously), and the second time I rented it, it just re-installed the data, and of course I deleted it again now that I don't have it anymore.

Different games take up different amounts of space. If your not going to play a game again though, then delete the game data. Thats what I do.

I wanted to play oblivion today. I had completed 1/2 the game in 2009 is guess. Now its gone.......I found a file in my Game data utility folder but the only info it gives is Title OBLIVION Created 4/9/2009 12:04 am Size 4342 MB Version - I have nothing but two games I saved as level 1 characters in my Saved game utility, but my old one was a high lvl. I have checked every user on my PS3 as well. So.....any clues?
