Arrrg!

Ok, I've read several pages on the net and watched three youtube videos. I'm pretty sure I'm doing this right but it's still not working.

I've dowloaded three games from pspfanboy. I extracted them to my desktop and they each appeared as folders with names like ULUS10313. Inside each folder was a file called EBOOT.PBP. I connected my psp to the computer via usb and turned on the usb connection on the psp. I then moved the whole folder into psp/games. Then I exited the usb connection, uplugged the usb cable and went to game/memory stick on the psp. It says there's no game files. The amount of memory on the stick is less which means something is taking up space but I can't access it. I'm currently using firmware ver. 3.95. Can someone please please tell me what I might be doing wrong?

On a side note: The first demo I tried was Lumines and it did work. However, it was in Japanese so when I wanted to exit the demo I pushed the home button on the psp and was faced with some options in Japanese. I just kept selecting an option and pushing the x or o button until I was able to exit the game. Perhaps one of these options said "exit Lumines and make it so you can never play another demo again". I have no idea since they were Japanese characters. Anyway, when I tried to play another demo, it wouldn't work and when I tried reinstalling the Lumines demo, it also no longer worked....

Now I'm sad.

I'm not sure if you did this or not, but did you extract the file from the folder that you downloaded? The psp isn't programmed to read start from a .ZIP file. In order to use it, you must create a normal folder of the same of the .ZIP file (ULUS etc etc etc) and extract the EBOOT file only into that newly created formula.

Ok, I tried installing the games directly on the memory card via the computer's card reader...still didn't work.

I was definitely unzipping the files before I put them on the psp.

I tried returning the psp to the default factory settings...still didn't work.

Finally I tried formatting the memory stick using the option on the psp. Bingo! I can see and play them now.

I was only joking when I said that first demo might have been causing me problems but now I'm not so sure. So my next question is, if I install a demo that's for a different region, can it screw up the memory card?

Thanks

Downloading demo's from other regions is fine, aswell as playing playing UMD games from other regions.

you need to keep in mind that most, if not all, JPN games will have the "confirm" buttons switched (e.g. when you want to confirm something on-screen, you need to use the Circle button instead of the Cross button when playing a JPN game). that's probably the problem you were having in that situation.
