Game Genie will come to PS3 - End of Honest Trophies?

Well, just found this post here from Operation Rainfall:

A little late in the game for something like this, surely?

People already earn trophies "dishonestly" as it is. I don't see why it should bother you (if you care about them) as long as you know you earned your own.

Usually I earn trophies legit but if Game Genie can somehow help me complete the rest of the VR missions in Metal Gear Solid 2, I would purchase 10 copies. MGS1 Snake's VR missions just plain suck.

games like souls game will be messed up. I just want some COOL game genie glitches (for example,mega jump for Sly collection/thievestime for exploration purposes)

I never use Game Genie's/Action Replays. They always screw with your game. And trophies are pretty much useless anyway except for bragging rights, which don't impress me.

It's just trophies honestly. How many people actually care about the trophies of others? Not many.

The biggest issue would be online games. If it could give someone infinite health or ammo or whatever it would totally ruin the game for everyone. Sony would likely have to sue them to stop making it and probably for damages. Even publishers would probably sue.Kurushio

True, but you'll have hackers regardless. Look at on-disc DLC. Already people have hacked access to that content without even paying for it yet Sony (unfortunately) hasn't banned that from releasing on their system.

You should do some self reflection if you're worried about "trophie icons".

Cheating online (on the other hand) ruins the whole service for everybody else. I don't have anything against people cheating on single player games (and I'm not going to pretend to be some wannabe video game elitist) But when you're ruining everyone's fun, it's a problem. I'm for it if there are failsafe locks for online modes.

From the article, it doesn't appear that it will affect any skill-based trophies.

It can not gain you trophies trophies, only augments the values of you saves. This means that the cheats won't make you invincible or anything, but only things like money or equipment.
