I think gaming is a huge part of the experience.

Ted Price (Insomniac) once told us to try playing a game with the sound off. I tried it, and holy cow is it different.

Ever since i was small, I hummed the tunes from the catchy Megaman music.

I still hum/whistle/sing video game music today. I mean, who doesn't want to hum the Metal Gear Solid theme when they're bored!? :D

Old school, old, and new! I love them all!

And yes...MGS is mandatory for music enthused souls!:P

i actually did come to this thread wondering waht the extra just for fun choice would be, so ivoted for that. music usually makes or breaks a games long term play value for me. i love th Skate gameplay, but i just hate the soundtrack, it really bugs me. games are getting increasingly better music, UT3's soundtrack sucks, i can't wait for in game XMB access.

so far every first party title has had an amazing soundtrack, but its SOny so i didn't expect anything less. Folklore, and Heavenly Sword stand out particularily imo.

It depends on the game. Sometimes I will listen to the game soundtrack, sometimes I will have my own music playing.

depends i think. For games that relies on atomsphere, yes. But for shooters like UT3 and CoD4? especially online. I'd prefer turning the music off so I can hear people coming.

It makes a huge difference in my opinion. When I got ff8, I remember reading the box and it said they had a famous chinese popstar perform one of the love songs and a wellknown choir as well singing some pieces. That was the time I started paying more attention to the music. We all know the mario music, most of us know the zelda music too. FF has some tunes, like the short melody that comes on when you win a battle. Epic music is the best though, going into a big battle and the music starts to get you going.

I love that song.

Video game scores to me, can be just as amazing and touching as any other piece of music. Concerts like 'Video Games Live' proove that there are a lot of people who feel the same way and they also show people uninterested in the media that there's a lot more to games than just killing stuff.

I almost always turn the music off because if I am walking down a dark corridore and some suspense music comes on I know that something's about to happen where as if it were real life the only music that would be heard would be from a radio playing or an mp3 player not that I would have headphones on if there were zombies around. same with racing games i'd prefer to hear the engine and in fps games I want to hear the destruction not some band playing. but during cut scenes if the music enhances the atmosphere it's fine like in MGS and Harry Gregson williams does a good score.

Music is very important; it's one of the major pillars that either makes a game mediocre, or lifts it into greatness.

Music can make or break a game imo. I love the music in Assassin's Creed, Uncharted, and Heavenly Sword to name 3 recent games. It really adds to the cinematic vibe.

Exactly. That is one of the reasons why God of War I and II are some of my favourite games. :D

I thought this poll was about playing your own soundtrack, and I voted for the wrong option. :(

I do think it's important.

I think it is. Sometimes I have to play on mute while my dad is working, and it just takes away the atmosphere completely..
