Do you think game prices are justifiable or is it a huge scam? Here in Canada you pay $69 for all new games. A year ago it was $59 which was way more reasonable

Simply put, Legend of Zelda OOT was 79.99 USD when it was released. Chrono Trigger was the same price point. Figuring for inflation, Games are quite cheap.
Nope, they aren't bad at all. I can see why they needed to increase the cost a bit as production values and costs have gone up I'm sure. At least it isn't like the old Neo-Geo days where you could pay anywhere between $250-300 a pop.
Depends on the game really. Their are definitely some releases that come out that you can tell the amount of work put into them isnt the same as other games. Ill gladly pay 60 bucks for a game like Uncharted 2 or Metal Gear when they first come out but for others not so much.
[QUOTE="Doolz2024"]The price of games isn't too high imo. I don't mind paying $60 for a game.fize4ever
rich boy coming through
well it's unfair but not a scam
oh boy i remember when i was paying 3$ on PS2 games (less then a burger)
now it's 40-100$ !!!
i hate it when people start whining about there financial problems on these kind of threads, if u didnt have enough money to buy the 60 dollar games why did u buy the 400 dollar system?... wat ps2 games were 3 dollars? the crap ones?Well if FFXIII releases at $100 US(which is what it's releasing at in Japan) then yeah i'd say that's too high but $60 isn't bad...Now should lesser quality games be priced lower...yeah but it would eventually decrease in price anyway.FF6fanJapan changed it's currency to the US dollar?!

edit: please don't insult PS2 games just because i buy them for a cheap price don't mean that you can just insult them it's rude
Games are priced just fine. Hell, was anybody here a gamer during the N64 era? Do you remember having to pay $60, $70, and even $80 for some games? Well I sure do. That was over a decade ago.
If you can't afford to pay for a game then I guess you should just wait until the price drops. Price drops on games occur pretty quickly, and when you factor in the used game market, eBay, GameStop, etc, games can easily be had for good prices very quickly after release.
I have no problem with game prices, both in terms of being able to afford them, and finding them worth the money.

i didnt insult ps2 games its just i hadnt seen any new/good ones for 3 dollars... also u called him rich boy even tho u dont know his financial condition...I think $60 is alot for a new game. They should lower it to at least $50 cmon. Especially today when the economy is all meesed up. Miss the old video games when they were cheaper.

I'm only willing to pay £30 for a game. With the exception of Modern Warfare 2, i'm willing to pay that extra fiver for the pre-order.
I think it's pretty fair. You're paying $60 for ____ hours of entertainment. 10 hours = $6 an hour (of course this will depend on the game and replay value...i'm just giving an example). And then when you compare it to going to see a 2 hour movie for $9.00 ($4.50 an hour) it's really not too bad all things considered.
I don't know why people always bring up the catridge era in reference to pricing, obviously since producing catridges was far more expensive than producing CD or DVD production costs would have been higher. I don't think prices are necessarily universally to high, I just think not every game needs to come out at the standard price. Pricing is suppose to be about recouping losses and turning a profit, not every game has the same exact cost of development, so not every game needs to be priced the same. I doubt the average movie game dribble had the same production cost as MGS4.Simply put, Legend of Zelda OOT was 79.99 USD when it was released. Chrono Trigger was the same price point. Figuring for inflation, Games are quite cheap.

I don't think it is possible to have different prices for different games like, lets just say, lower prices for movie adaptation games. Because this becomes subject to individual opinion.
Also, if this is implemented we will have an even bigger problem. Because seeing this, companies will take advantage of it and next time a big title will get released the publisher will say, "well this new game we are introducing is soooo good that we will sell it at more than regular price." Whose to stop them? If there are below avarage games that deserve below avarage prices why cant there be above avarage games with above avarage prices. They will implement it and we will all pay way more for COD: Modern Warefare 3, FF14 or any of the other big and highly anticipated titles.

Yep thats the folly of the pricing standard, while it keeps publishers from pulling that, it also means that many games thats shouldn't cost that much unfortunately do. However that example wouldn't happen too much, because the $99 game really isn't going to fly at market, the best they could pull is a few bucks over what is now the standard.i didnt insult ps2 games its just i hadnt seen any new/good ones for 3 dollars... also u called him rich boy even tho u dont know his financial condition...[QUOTE="yarou1000"][QUOTE="fize4ever"]

wow i wish i lived where u live, and i also dont mind 60 dollars for games that will keep me entertained for a long amount of time, everything else is bough ton sale...I only get games I'm excited for anyways so for this year I'm really only excited for Uncharted 2. I might get Modern Warfare 2 or Ratchet and Clank when the price goes down or buy it used.
I can sympathize with you cause my family isn't rolling in dough either, so I have to fuel my gaming addiction myself... but when you consider all of the hours of entertainment these games can give us... it's pretty fair. Sometimes it's better to rent the game though. Example: I paid $60 for COD4 because I knew I could play it over and over again, even after I beat the campaign mode. The online play is incredible! But a game like inFamous? It was very fun indeed (awesome actually) but after you beat it, you kind of let it sit there and collect dust.
Don't buy every game. Take advantage of Blockbuster!

Man I remember dropping like 79.99 on Mario party when it first came out on N64.
As for the OP, BS I still see new releases sold at 59.99 and I live in Canada
I am curious to know the average age of the people here complaining about video game prices. Sounds to me like most are probably going to be 13-17 and expect to buy games with the allowance mommy and daddy give them.
Go get a job and you will realise that games just aren't that expensive. Now if you want to go out there and buy every game that gets released than of course it will get expensive.
I guess what I am trying to say is stop whining and get a job. Or just stop whining and wait till the price drops...
I think the pricing on games is ridiculous. I mean, you sure wouldn't pay as much for a Chevy as you would for a Ferrari, but they think they can sell GI Joe for the same price as Uncharted 2 or God of War 3?
Completely nuts.
Jackc8
If you are stupid enough to buy GI Joe the video game you deserve to pay whatever price you pay.
