Cable is always faster than wireless. Always.

Yeah, I'm "pro wired" so I say wired all the way. Much more reliable and nobody can piggy back on your signal either.

Some updates are very large and some are not. Just be happy you can download the whole update. I've had errors in which it didn't let me download some updates before.

It really depends on your location to the WAP and your internet speed. If your within 15 feet of the Wireless access point your wifi speed is going to be identical to a wired connection. Get 20 to 30 feet away and you start losing speed as well as signal reliability. You might want to check the size of some of these updates. Some can get up to 500 to 600 megs which at 5meg (610kbps) internet your still talking about a 20+ minute update.

a cable will speed it up a bit, but not much, its just majority of large updates take a while to download, i think the xbox is quicker as they pay for servers

It's alright, it's worth it in the end. And cables are the way to go if you want fast.
