Does anyone else have the problem of not completing games? Maybe you have a hard time deciding what game to play, if any at all?

I always hit a point to where I just can't play a game anymore. I can never get a Platinum trophy, and I have at least a few games that if I put in a little more time I'd be able to get it.

I've only beaten a few games over the last few years but I never actually complete them. Mass Effect 1 and 2, God of War 3, Uncharted 1 and 2, Tranformers WfC, just to name a few. I have played dozens more sadly.

If I start a game, and it sucks, I stop playing it. If it is good, then I keep playing it. I just play what I want. IDK if that helps but there you go. Sometimes I tell myself I should go finish those crap games like Neverdead and Clash of the Titans, but I never will.

Glad to know I am not the only one.

I actually got about 60% of the trophies for the first inFAMOUS.... that's a lot for me. I finished the story line on it but I can't complete the game either.

It all seems to come down to trophies, when I normally think I've finished a game, I check the trophies and I'm like at 40%. There is no way I can get that other 60% lol.

If you spend all your time worrying about trophies you will be a miserable gamer.... As long as you beat the story line trophies should not matter.

ditto. I have about 30 games I haven't even gotten into let alone the ones I still need to finish up the dlc I paid for. All this and NFS Most Wanted, AC3 and Lego LOTR right around the corner

I have a large backlog, and it only ends up getting bigger as I always end up spending my time playing new titles. I'm hoping to really kick into gear next year so I can eliminate my backlog in time for when the next consoles roll around.

Yes. It happens with some games and not others, for some inexplicable reason. Most games I start I can complete; even get the platinum. But other games, for some reason, I just stop playing. For instance, Persona 4. I LOVE the game, but every time I start playing it again, I come to a point where I just stop. I don't know why.

I wouldnt say I have gamer's block, but I tend to take my time with games. So when a new one comes out I start it without finishing the ones I have been playing. I'm working on about 4 different games now, and will be getting Dishonored on Wednesday.

Nope. I only buy games that I am interested in. In doing so, I ensure that I will complete them. It is a total waste of money to not finish a game, especially at $60. I play through my back log of titles in the order I bought them, so if I am a little bored with a game, I will blow through it without searching every nook and cranny so that I can move on to something new. It hasn't happened a lot this gen, maybe twice.

Yeah I definitely have Gamer's Block, I'm also and Illustrator so a lot of my time goes into painting. I'll probably wait a while until I get a next gen console, that way their libraries can build up good games and have time to drop in price.

I don't have a problem finishing games per say. but I replay some games frequently and recently have found that replaying alot of these games is really boring and tedious now, just a year ago or two ago I had no such problem and most new games I play don't entertain me alot either. I think part of it is playing too much in general and playing alot of sequels,

I think you may have a good point there. I know sometimes I look at my backlog, which including Steam and PS+ is massive (damn you Steam sales!!!!) I can't hardly decide what to play.

There is also the rate of new games coming out that I think makes some of us move on from whatever game we are playing to play the new game, I do that at least. I've already almost forgotten about Borderlands 2, for example.

Agree. A lot of people think b/c they have a game (or b/c they own a game that was rated highly), that they need they MUST play it. If you don't feel like playing a game, then it's not worth forcing yourself to play it. It's not worth it - if it's not fun, then don't play it. Games are suppose to be fun, not a chore. There are times when there is an exception - for example, i forced myself to complete Persona 4 to the very end, and honestly the ending was satisfying - it gave me closure that I otherwise wouldn't have if I didn't force myself to finish it.

I only play the games that interest me and I enjoy. Which is 90% of the time RPG's and Action/Adventure titles. I tried and played almost every genre out there however I pretty much stopped.

My advice to you is simply play the game you enjoy, the ones you have most fun with. Forget about trophies completions. They are normal part of the game but don't spend hours upon hours collecting them just to get 100%.

Have fun when playing the game. :)

Well that's definitely good advice....but here's the kicker, even for me: sometimes even the games that interest I sometimes run into a snag w/ finishing right away, lol. I always like to joke and call myself an ADD gamer b/c I have so many games that I know I need to go back and finish. The irony is that it's usually not b/c I don't like it that stops me from playing it; just that I'm easily distracted or game so hard at a time where I end up burning myself out on gaming, lol

I have yet to beat a single ps3 game, although I have only owned a ps3 for like 6 months; it's not that bad. I am way worse when it comes to buying games on steam especially when they have their christmas/summer sales. I have about 20+ games I havent even played and 50-60+ I barely tried. And I own nearly 400 steam games with only 5-7 I have beat.

I just get very bored of a game unless it's something that I like, but I have "gamer craze" where I just feel like all these games are constantly going through my mind saying "PLAY ME" and even when I am playing other games this happens. I have a very bad gaming addiction though, so I guess it's different for me.

Thanks for the advice, that is smart suggestions there. I guess to me it feels like I used to be able to completely play through a game when I was younger. Now I can finish a game if I really try but I don't see half the stuff in it. I really should just ignore the trophies haha.

This is actually me in a nutshell, too. I have over 200 games on Steam because of their sales. I mean, it's hard to say no to something like 75% off a game that is almost 50$ normally. Stupid Steam...... lol. I imagine the next PS will have a business setup similar to Steam. The horror!!

You're most welcome, I'm 30 years old, married to wonderful woman and have 3 years old son. I still enjoy gaming on occasion to pass time (as does my wife, but more relaxed on the subject, she mostly enjoys Little Big Planet, Spore, Sims, Wii games such as Mario, Zelda and so forth) however, I have given up few years back, after I have gotten good carrier job going, playing everything there is to play.

There simply was no time, nor passion as when i was younger.

Gaming is one of my favorite pass times but with family and friends its much more restricted and to be perfectly honest with you - games are not as captivating or interesting as they use to be. The key is to find the balance and play what you truly enjoy. Not for a reason (like trophies) but for pure enjoyment and fun. I love RPG games for example, so I don't bother with competitive online FPS games.

I use to have, years ago, a long pile of games I bought on discount and just never finished. After some thinking, I got rid of them all and simply kept the ones I will kick back, relax and play for enjoyment.

Right now, I'm having great time with Game of Thrones. It didn't get amazing reviews, it's not a blockbuster hit, it doesn't have best graphics or sound or whatever, but to me it's a great story, written by non-other then R.R Martin (who also did all the current five books of the same name), old school gameplay (think Dragon Age: Origins) and believable world which is the same as I have read in the books. I'm just enjoying the game, no other commitment to it.

So, if you're getting burned out, relax - leave gaming for a while, do something else. Find a goal you wish to accomplish.

You don't have to and are not obligated to play 'every' single game out there.

Just my two-cents. ;)

So true, I'm actually the same age as you haha. It's true because then you get burned out on them. Too much overload. I guess it is shopping addiction lol. You get all excited when you see something marked down and then you buy only to get stuck. It doesn't help that this generation has seen more quality games that are at least worth trying either. I remember past generations that there were few AAA or even A rated games throughout the whole generation. Now they seem like they come out ever week. Hard to keep up with!

If I took that approach (one game at a time), I would never finish a game. I play like 3-4 games at a time so I don't get bored playing the same game.

This happen to me a lot. It's not that I dislike a particular game, it's just that one magical morning, I will wake up with zero interest in playing that game. Game series that I truthfully love, like Assassin's Creed, Splinter Cell, Fatal Frame, Mario, Zelda, I always buy the newest one, and while I can't even make up an excuse to not play it (that is, I do honestly like the game to begin with) ony day I will lose the interest and stop playing it.

I do believe it has to do with depression, because when I was in medication, I could play any blockbuster title and have a lot of fun, games that I wouldn't play otherwise, like CoD multiplayer.

I think certain periods of your life are better suited to completing games than others. If you're at a point when you know you should be dedicating more energy to a different area of your life, chances are you'll be distracted and not really enjoy the game. As you become an adult you feel this way more often because your horizons broaden and you realize there are more fulfilling paths to take.
