I am brand new to the PS3 and building my library of kick butt games to play. Since I am brand new I see that there are quite a few games that are already in the 3rd to 4th game of the series. Which games are a must to start from the beginning of the series? For instance a few people have told me that if I want to buy the Assassins Creed series then I must start them from #1 or #2 to really get the story and enjoy the game. Personally I dont want to start a 2007 game if the graphics or game play isn't up to par with 2011-2012 technology. So looking for some advice on which games are still worth it to go back and play from the beginning of the series. These are the games I own now: inFAMOUS 2 (Love it!) Batman: Arkham City (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Saints Row The Third (Awesome!) Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Skyrim (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Call of Duty: Black Ops (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Rage (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Dead Island (Only played 10 minutes of it so far) Duke Nukem Forever (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . Super Hero Squad Infinity (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . LEGO Harry Potter: Years 1-4 (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . X-Men Origins: Wolverine Uncaged Edition (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . Enslaved: Odyssey To The West (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . Borderlands (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) . UPDATE: Thanks for the suggestions so far . I just ordered the following games: Assassins Creed 1 God Of War Collection 1 & 2 Batman Arkham Asylum: Game of the Year Greatest Hits Here are a few games I was looking to add to my collection: Fear 3 Grand Theft Auto Dead Rising Dead Space Fallout Resistance Uncharted Resident Evil Final Fantasy Open to any other awesome must have/ Play games! Thanks for any suggestions and advice

I'd recommend playing Uncharted 1 before starting on 2. Although you wouldn't have any problem understanding the story, the characters and the relationships between them are my favorite part of that series, and you'd be kind of lost if you didn't play them in order.

That part made me laugh pretty hard. The PS3 is not upgradable like a PC, so the tech from 2007 is the same tech it has today.

Yea maybe not my best choice of words... But I meant that the game play and graphics of the game and not the system its self. Again I am new to PS3 and not a techie dude.

I read that somewhere else that AC1 isnt really necessary and not a great game and can be skipped. Thanks and I will be picking that one up this week as well.

I just finished AC2, amazing game. If you really want to know what happens in the first one, you could always Youtube it. The first Infamous is another top game! I was going To say go straight for Uncharted 2, it's amazing but the first one is definately worth a play.

Well I wouldn't be too worried about how old the game is. For one old means cheaper. Also look at Uncharted 1 and how well it stands up to today's games. Same with Metal Gear Solid 4.

You read right. The first is pretty sub par and extremely repetitive. And I also read in a number of different places that the first isn't needed to follow the story.

well yeah, not to follow Ezio's story, but for Desmonds i would say the first is a must play.. It has all the higher concept stuff and majority of Desmonds story in it.. Definitely worth a play.. the gameplay is just as repetitive as the second one, there's just less to do..

If you happen to become interested in the Bioshock series, DEFINITELY play the first one before you play the second.

The metal gear games. Download metal gear solid 1 from the psn, buy the metal gear solid hd collection for 2 and 3 (you can skip peace walker if you want), then finally 4. The uncharted games, infamous, batman, bioshock, and god of war should be played in order too. I would recommend playing the ratchet and clank ps3 games in order but you dont have to. Just don't start with all 4 one.

I am already pretty far into infamous 2 and wonder if I should just get the first one and play that after I beat it? batman I will stop playing the 2nd one and get the first and start with that. With Rachet and Clank I already started playing all for one since it came with my bundle for the PS3. If the other Rachet and Clanks are as good as this one, then I would love to buy them all.

lol you think all 4 one is good? Then you will for sure like the other 3 ratchet and clank ps3 games. I thoguht all 4 one was the weakest in the series but if you like it then you are going to love tools of destruction, quest for booty, and crack in time.

I liked it cause its a game we can all play together and I got it free with my PS3. But I wouldn't have bought it if I was just going to play it myself. I will be sure to grab the others as well. Do you know what order they are in?

thats a pretty good start for your library. as for the AC series i can say start with AC2, and just read up on what happened in AC1, or just watch vids on youtube. AC1 is pretty dated now and its REALLY repetitive. i dont mind playing old games since i have a retro gamer side to me, but what really pissed me off was how repetitive it was.

as for any other series i recommend you start with the first game, but you dont really have to. my first MGS game was MGS4 (which is amazing btw) and then i worked backwards lol.

enjoy your new ps3

Yup thats the order. Quest for Booty is a psn exclusive so you have to download it from psn and its only like $15. Trust me you will like those first 3 better.

AC1 was pretty damn cheap on amazon so I ordered it and figured I would just follow the story at least and it will help when it unfolds in the series. I also ordered the first Batman as well to play that in order as well. Tomorrow I will pick up the Uncharted 1 & 2 pack that comes with the blue controller for $59 from Best Buy since its such a good deal. Even though I already have 4 controllers already. Im also going to pick up the first infamous and stop playing #2 so that I can go back and catch up on the story since I am pretty lost and just learning as I go. I also ordered the God of War: Collection (1 & 2) Seems like I really shouldn't skip any games in a series if it has a story behind it.

For Yakuza it looks like only #3 and #4 are available for PS3 correct? Will I be lost if I start at #3? Thanks for the suggestions. As for Metal Gear... For now I think I will hold off on buying any more 1st or 3rd person shooter type games since i haven't really got too much into those yet. I got Rage and Black Ops so far. Only played BO for like 45 minutes and it was pretty cool but not too into it yet.

No they are only 1 player. Ratchet and Clank games normally focus on story and exploration of different planets so you get more cutscens, more areas to explore, and more humor. Im sure your daughters will enjoy watching you play the other Ratceht games and like listening to all the funny dialouge and funny cutscenes. Or you could take turns with them or they might just enjoy watching for the story. A crack in time has a interesting story by having ratchet and clank seperate from each other so you switch off between the 2 by when playing as ratchet doing what you do in all 4 one: shooting, wrentch swining, and adventure stuff while when you play as clank you are at the great clock and you do these puzzles with clank were you have to get through different areas of the great clock. So dont be put off by the first 3 ratchet ps3 games not being multi player lol.

Usually, you play the "2007 for the story" so who care if graphics are bad, and game play can't be dated on any game as far as i'm concerned.

So looking for some advice on which games are still worth it to go back and play from the beginning of the series. These are the games I own now:
inFAMOUS 2 (Love it!) get infamous 1 well worth it ...
Batman: Arkham City (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Dunno didn't play it didn't care not a Batsy Fan
Saints Row The Third (Awesome!) Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Skyrim (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Most of story of the precedent Scrolls can be read through books in the games, but even though dated Morrowind on pc and Oblivion are still good games
Call of Duty: Black Ops (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Rage (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Dead Island (Only played 10 minutes of it so far) Dunno didn't play ........ it's the only one in the sery so far
Duke Nukem Forever (Havent Even Started Playing Yet) Dunno didn't play it didn't care

Here are a few games I was looking to add to my collection:
Fear 3 Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Grand Theft Auto Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Dead Rising Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Assassins Creed Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Dead Space Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Fallout Resistance Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Uncharted Dunno didn't play it didn't care
God Of War Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Resident Evil Dunno didn't play it didn't care
Final Fantasy All the FF games are independent story wise Except for 10/10-2, 13/13-2, 7/crysis core/dirge of cerberus

Open to any other awesome must have/ Play games! Thanks for any suggestions and advice
From your selection you seem to enjoy mainly action games, sandboxes and fps but do seem open to other ****

demon's souls action/rpg do not approach is dying a lot is frustrating for you.
dark's souls action/rpg do not approach is dying a lot is frustrating for you.
Both are in the same series on the ps3 and are not dated

Valkyria Chronicles strategy RPG ... doesn't have trophy ... great looks and gameplay ... considered by many as a ****c for the ps3 ...
Unfortunately the series as continued ... but on the PSP for 2 and 3 ... and 3 is said to never be localised in NA

Heavy Rain ... heavy on story, multiple endings, light gameplay ... need to like murder mysteries though.
It's alone in it's series so far.

Disgaea 4 and 3 ... Strategy heavy + rpg ... series never was strong on graphics so don't expect much, but near endless replay value, attacks that cause billions of damge to enemies, great story full of funky puns. they are full of easter eggs and DLC from previous titles ... both on ps3 in the last 3 years
Disgaea 1 and 2 are on ps2 but have been remade on DS and PSP and disgaea as been confirmed for remake on PSVITA.

Catherine ... Puzzle game ... great story, very nice and inovative concept
Alone in it's series so far.

Bioshock 1 and 2 ... fps ... i usually don't play fps, but story and atmosphere got me hooked.
bioshock infinite is coming early 2012 so you'd start playing now lol

Little Big Planet 1 and 2 ... user generated platforming mismatch ... girlfriend approved game, enough said ...
both on ps3

thats a pretty good start for your library. as for the AC series i can say start with AC2, and just read up on what happened in AC1, or just watch vids on youtube.

AC1 was pretty damn cheap on amazon so I ordered it and figured I would just follow the story at least and it will help when it unfolds in the series. I also ordered the first Batman as well to play that in order as well. Tomorrow I will pick up the Uncharted 1 & 2 pack that comes with the blue controller for $59 from Best Buy since its such a good deal. Even though I already have 4 controllers already. Im also going to pick up the first infamous and stop playing #2 so that I can go back and catch up on the story since I am pretty lost and just learning as I go. I also ordered the God of War: Collection (1 & 2) Seems like I really shouldn't skip any games in a series if it has a story behind it.

looks like you are getting youself to an amazing start. i got AC1 for 3 bucks lol, it isnt completly terrible but once you play AC2+ you will know what i mean. i played AC2 first and then AC1, so i kept noting its flaws.
metal gaear 4 yakuza 3 and yakuza4 rockstarinlife
For Yakuza it looks like only #3 and #4 are available for PS3 correct? Will I be lost if I start at #3? Thanks for the suggestions. As for Metal Gear... For now I think I will hold off on buying any more 1st or 3rd person shooter type games since i haven't really got too much into those yet. I got Rage and Black Ops so far. Only played BO for like 45 minutes and it was pretty cool but not too into it yet.

no no MGS isnt what you think it is. its not a 3rd person shooter like say gears of war. MGS is all about stealth and how wisely you use your equipment to survive. yes you use guns but not alot, as you only use them when you absolutly need to kill. not to mention the great story it has. its your decision but like naveedlife said, i recommend you play MGS1-4 and enjoy them.

What about: Resident Evil Tomb Raider Final Fantasy Should I start with the 1st of all of the above for the story to unfold?rockstarinlife

Resident Evil- hmm thats an interesting one. You will benefit from playing them in order though. On psn you download 1,2,3 (ps1 games), code veronica, and 4, play in that order, and ofcoarse buy 5. 0 is only on game cube and wii but you can skip that since the whole inventory system makes the game annoying. If you have a wii or gamecube I would play the remake of the first resident evil instead since it is way better. If not then dont worry about but keep in mind the ps1 resident evil 1 has really cheezy dialouge and the story and grahpics by todays standards make it seem like a paradoy of a horror story, but 2 onward are scary with the exception of 5 lol. If you dont want to play all the past ones I guess you could start with 5 since it does focus more on action instead of story but you wont really get a lot. Also if you have a wii and dont want to play the past ones you can get Umbrella Chronciles and Dark Side Chronciles. Both are on rails shoters that basically summerize the events of 0,1, and 3 in UC and 2 and CV in DC. If you only want to play some past ones then Code Veronica and 4 would work but I would recommend playing from the beginning since the older resident evil games are great.

Tomb Raider- can't say much since I only played some of 2 back in the day and was stuck on legends and lost my saved data in a system wipe so really cant help you on that, sorry

Final Fantasy- All FF games are different unless there is a "-2" after the title or a subitle under the FF title. I highly recommdned not starting with XIII because it kind of sucked. SE is releasing Final Fantasy X HD edition for the PS3 this year and I would definatly get that since X is the second best. If you do get XIII just keep in mind that the other FF games are not like XIII so dont hate the series if you hate XIII. If you were referring to playing XIII-2 before XIII I would just play XIII first. XIII-2 is said to be better and incorporate elements of the older games like open world, towns, and npcs so might as well shift through the crap storm to get to the gold lol.

Start with AC2, you dont need the original.

tjricardo089

You kinda do because of the apple story, but then I guess they sum it up good on AC2

GS has sppoiler tags for a reason, use em.

based off the list youve provided you should be good....in fact there's a few games id suggest getting rid of so you can have money for better ones....but for RIGHT now youre fine.....but there are 2 suggestions i have...if youre gonna say youre a PS3 owner...other than Uncharted 1-3.....you definitely have to get the Metal Gear Solid series....which MGS1 is on the PS One Classics....and theres a HD Collection for the others than get MGS4 which is arguably the best PS3 games ever made.....another game i feel is a gem and a must own is Valkyria Chronicles its a Strategy/RPG, i absolutely HATE strategy games...but this game is just AWESOME and i believe anyone can enjoy it......give Yakuza 3 and 4 a try as well
