Hello all,

I have a ps3 with backwards compatability. But looking back on older games compared to newer games, IMO older developers gave you more bang for your buck. The quality of the storylines, character design, and gameplay just seemed more intune and not rushed as so many of todays games are.

What do you think?

Well that clearly doesn't apply to every game both past and present.

I agree this generation seems to be all about online gaming :( (Im not saying every game this generation but most) developers need to step there game up and realise there are gamers who dont want to play online.

Just because there were great games on older consoles dosnt mean we dont get fantastic games today with deep storylines. What about Mass Effect and BioShock? And dont forget the upcomming The Last Guardian and Heavy Rain.

It's true though,
Soul Calibur III > IV
MGS3 > IV

PS2 will ALWAYS be the king of gaming.

Nowadays, they're too focused on online and graphics.

Im not saying that we don't have great games for the current gen systems. I am saying that the majority of the games are watered down and seemed rushed into production. Also, most of them are just overrated (Assassins Creed). I must say I loved MGS4, but for some reason it just didnt feel like a MGS title. Armored Core has become a sideline franchise. OMG Resident Evil is no longer a survival horror, but an action game...Whats really going on?

I agree. Not that its a wrong thing to do, with the expanding gaming community, online play is a great way to bring gamers together, but in some instances it truly isn't needed.

Of course not... Its just that when comparing, the games of this gen are based more on elements outside the game rather than the actual game. Perfect example, compare MGS 2 and 3 to MGS 4. All great games, but 4 was more focused on cinema than actual gaming. I loved MGS 4, but I feel it lacked a lot of elements that make MGS a great game.

I agree as I have 80gb BC model and I'm finding the PS2 games more enjoyable. SOC, TS3(CIT), Jak, Rez, Okami, GOW, FF and fatal frame. There sure are a lot of great games last gen but then again the library is so much larger than the PS3. Though I agree that more games are catering to the online multiplayer and getting away from great single player this gen.

Well that can happen with any game. Some game developers will rush it, while others take time.

I think more of the newer games for the PS3 coming out are going to be very well made and have alot of game play. Prototype started it off with how much gameplay it has.

A lot of the development money is spent on HD graphics and online stuff. In the past, all of that money went into gameplay, story, longer games, etc.

Well yeah, you gotta have good graphics today or only the mature players will buy them. Atleast a quarter of the market is occupied by kiddies that want "t3h s3x13z gr4ph1czzzzzz" so they can watch and girls HD behind and melons... You also got the casual market witch certainly hold half the market and good graphics and a great looking cover art can probably make more cash then a storyline written by J.R.R Tolkien and Doom 1 graphics...

But you still got jewels of games made.
You got Company of Heroes, Half Life 2, Portal, Little Big Planet, Crysis etc.
And notice that these games usualy have high end graphics and good gameplay. But if you ask me story quality today compared to the RPGs and Adventure games of the 80s and 90s is horrid :D (most of the time)

For every one next-gen game I buy, I end up buying 3 older games.
