Once again this topic surfaces.....
You knew at least a year ago that the PS3 was coming out and it was going to cost $600. You couldn't sock away $50 a month during that time to buy it? Only now are you realizing that this purchase is going to cut deep into your wallet?
A Price Drop? Forget it. At least not until x-mas 2008 I'm guessing. And even then, maybe $100 maximum.
Sony has committed to positioning this system for the next 10 years. That's right 10 years. Longer than any system every.
Do you need more convincing? Look at the PS3's cousin, the PC. It's the only thing that can offer the same level of gaming, and play videos, pictures, and offer online play. And what does a good gaming PC cost? $2,500? And how long before its obsolete and something better comes along at the same or cheaper price? 10 months?
This is what all the Xbox fanboys are chanting. "Give me something that makes the PS3 worth $200 more than my Xbox!" Well PS3 is a full year behind Xbox in the game library department. We all know that. But it's clear that the PS3 is catching up. and FAST.
I can't wait to see what the fanboys are saying when they are waiting in line with six or seven hundred dollars to buy their Xbox 720 and its one exclusive game (probably halo 4).
I think that the PS3 is a better machine than the Xbox 360. Without turning this into "which system is better" I'll leave it at that. It's my opinion. It is also my firm belief that the PS3 is going to be around alot longer than the Xbox 360. That's my opinion, and if it makes me an ass, or a fanboy posterchild, then fine. I'm guilty.
As for the griping about the money. I'm so sick of people complaining about the PS3's price. It is worth $600. Period. The Xbox isn't all that much cheaper, especially when you add in the cost of all the periphereals and online service. The number of Xbox exclusives is shrinking, while the number of PS3 exclusives is growing.
And it's not fanboy ranting when I say the PS3 is being positioned for the next 10 years. Those are Sony's own words, not mine.
And if you can't afford a PS3 because you have to pay for school, gas, etc.  THE PS3 IS NOT FOR YOU. You are not in target market. The target market for the PS3 is guys like me. Aged 23-35, gainfully employed, and a moderate amount of disposable income. Sony was not thinking of broke college kids when they started selling the PS3. Maybe if you're a good boy, Santa will bring you one for christmas.
And I will reiterate my previous comment to you and the original poster. You KNEW that this was coming. You KNEW it was going to cost 600 bucks a year ago. Why are you whining NOW? This is what next generation gaming costs and it shouldn't surprise you. You should have thought of this a year ago when you learned that the PS3 would be so expensive. Like I said, all you had to do was buy one less gram of weed per week and you would have a PS3 right now.
Don't blame sony because you blew your allowance on pokemon cards.
I'm gonna wait. No reason spending $600 now when there isn't much to play. I will most likely wait til a price drop. If you can't wait that long, that's fine. But I would wait for te price to go down. Unless you win some cash. monopolyloser

You can't justify the $600 price because "there isn't much to play". How many games do you intend to buy? If you can't afford the system, how are you going to afford a high-quality, diverse library of games? There are enough GREAT games to justify buying the system today provided you don't have time to play more than six or eight games for the next two weeks. After that, even more great games will be released.Â
and anyone waiting for a price drop is going to be waiting a LONG time.Â

Well, I'd like to get a PS3, which is going to require me saving up a bit of cash. But I'm curious if there's been any rumors of price drops or anything. I'd hate to pay for a PS3 only to have it drop in price next month lol. Any advice appreciated!venomblackSony has said there will be no price drop until 2009

Well, with the momentum is starting to swing in sonys favor now, I wouldn't expect a price drop anytime soon. If you want the ps3 for games, it's not worth it at the PRESENT moment, BUT if you plan on taking advantage of the additional multimedia functions of the system....it's worth getting now.
well... you obviously arent that smart, the PS3 is LOSING ALOT of their exclusives, they already lost GTA4, and probably MGS. They also got god of war 2 on ps2, because theres not even 2 millions playstations yet. Xbox 360 has less exclusives? you must have issues

And obviously you are new here, PS3 has way more exclusives than the 360 currently has and it more than it probably ever will. There is a thread with all of the PS3 exclusives on it, you should go take a look. And MGS going to the 360? Use your head. That will never happen.
He's not new....he back from banland.
I'll get my Ps3 when it comes out in Turkey.. I pre-ordered and waiting ! Thats the best thing to do i think ... Waiting it to become cheaper is a real pain..
Honestly, the blu-ray selection is about on the same level as the current ps3 game array. *puts on his flame retardant suit* I think if you're asking the question, it means you're willing to wait and don't see a game worthy of you dropping $600 yet. I'd say it's better to hold on to the money until you're ready to get it or you'll probably end up regretting spending the money (if only temporarily until a game you like comes out).Ps3 for gaming alone? Wait. Ps3 for gaming + hd movies =get one now.

You can play the Sony PlayStation 2 games on it, get demos, better online..etc. So it's a good upgrade to play last generation games and you have some good games out for the Sony PlayStation 3 like Resistance: Fall of Man, Tekken 5: Dark Resurrection, MotorStorm..etc. They're games that can last you enough for the next good one which I think will be "Half - Life 2: The Orange Box" release date fourth quarter of 2007 (Oct. - Dec.). Me personally, I honestly don't think it matters whenever you get it because the real price drops will most likely happen around 2010 - 2013 so I'm getting it whenever I have a chance.

I'd hate to pay for a PS3 only to have it drop in price next month lol. Any advice appreciated!venomblackTotally up to you, but if you want my opinion... I'm going to wait until a big title game comes out that I'm looking forward to (MGS:4), then I'll buy it with the system. I think I'll be happiest doing that, because then I can experience the awesomeness that is Metal Gear, AND PS3 at the same time. Theres just something about plugging in a brand new system and loading up that first game that feels good. Except this time... that first game will be Metal Gear Solid. O.O Its only my opinion, but I'm pretty sure there wont be a price drop before MGS:4. I think Sony knows how many more new customers they'll get upon its release, and lowering the price before it.. wouldnt really make sense from a financial perspective. I cant sit and wait for that to happen while everyone else is out there playing MGS:4! So hell naw, no way I'm gonna wait for a price drop lol.
A system is only as good as its games are no matter how technologically advanced it is. If you like the current PS3 games then go for it. If not then just wait a bit, thats what im doing. I actually only got my wii for TP and now its just sitting there getting dusty. You have to be patient and look at the upcoming releases for each system. If theres something that you like then get the damn system!
Why waint?? I got mine this weekend for $650 (20 GB) with 3 games (Resistance, Madden 07 and PGA tour 07), 2 blu ray movies, HDMI cable and an extra controller. Is that a deal or what???FFXNo1where did you get this deal from
