So Im debating on whether or not I should shell out the extra $100 for the 80gb version. Normally Ild think oh hye, more memory plus a free game, why not, but my one concern is the EE chip. Apparently the PS3 would not play my oldps2 games as well if I were to buy the 80gb version, which is why Im leaning towards a 60gb. On top of that what are the other differences between the two versions? I saw on their site that it sad that the 80gb is more geared towards better visuals blah blah blah but I assume that is just so that that version will sell more because its more expensive.

So what it comes down to is, what is the difference if any in the 60 and 80 gb ps3s?

Another thing is the accounts. I have a child account on 360 and it is really annoying with some stuff. I am 17 and am curious if I should lie about my age on my PS3 or is it alrite to put in 17 because there really isnt a difference in accounts.

Last thing is that I am going to be setting it up with a 47' 1080p HDLCD. Whatcables does the ps3 come with and what if any will I have to buy to get the full 1080p out of my new console?

Im off to school now but Ill check back afterwards and I would greatly appreciate your input.

Thanks in advance for the help :)

get HDMi (20bucks on ebay, and 5 bucks online )cables and some bluray movies (prepare to be amazed by picture) i would just get 80gb if u plan on using the memory (i got 9gb on 60gb version) and if u like motorstorm. Buti would definaly get HEAVENLY SWORD THE BEST PS3 GAME, HAS BEST GRAPHICS, BEST GAMEPLAY, AND ITS THE FIRST GAME THAT SHOWS OFF PS3S POWER AND IT WILL TRULY AMAZE YOUR FRIENDS ON YOUR AWESOME HDTV (I GOT 32IN HDTV)

Its a must that you buy an HDMI later after you get a PS3, the 60 Gb only comes with a normal av cable, the 80 Gb however I'm not sure. Any HDMI cable would do, expensive or not there is no difference.

Get the 60gb while you can, save yourself the heartache of not having a PS2 game you love work right. And you have to buy the HDMI cables.

The 80 gig ps3 has backwards compatibilty with ps2 games achieved through software emulation (like the 360). There won't be as many games that work on the 80 gig as with the 60 gig but they have a website where you can check to see which games work right now. They will probably be working on getting more ps2 games to work on the ps3 and updatethem through the firmware releases.

Get the 80 gig. it comes with a good free ps3 game. they also fixed the problems the 60 gig version had. im also pretty sure they'll fix the problem with backwards compatability through firmware updates. get an HDMI cable after you get the ps3 so you get the true full 1080p experience.

get the 60GB,there abdotutely no difference between the two except for the harddrive size and that is very easily upgradable to a much larger harddrive. with the 60GB you get awwesome BC. you must play GOD of War 1 and 2.

get an HDMI cable to get the best out of your ps3. Don't get it from retail stores unless you find a cheap one. BEst buy sells them for like 50$, but you could get them much cheaper on line (5$ and up).

Thanks for the info about the HDMI cables

But so the two consoles are identical then basically except for the EE chip?

Because the more I think about it, I have to keep my original ps2 anyways to play my old guitar heroes seeing that the pelican converter wont even allow hammer-ons and pull-offs so really the backwards compatility doesnt matter too much then.

Unless somehow the ps3 graphically buffs up the old ps2 games graphics..?

it does and get a 60gb PS3 because for 100 bucks you can get like a 100-160gb hdd and a 30-40$ game.

Plus I can get the PS3, either version, for $100 off at Best Buy because Im picking up a new HD LCD.

Ive read that the 80gb has a different , smaller chip somewhere that lets it not get as hot as the 60gb.

Bah idk which to get, I want to just shell out the extra 100 and get motorstorm and the highest end version, and just keep playing all my old games on my ps2 that Im keeping regardless but Im not sure...

Has Sony announced that they will be making a converter for the controllers? Because if so I would definitely just pick up the 60gb, but for now the pelican is all we have and I refuse to use that one.

well the 80 gig aint the high end. it just comes with extra 20 gigs and motorstorm. but u lose ps2/ps1 disk play. the 80 gig ull have to go to that site sony just put up and download some crap to play ur old games.

i think ive seen a deal on newegg.com where u get a free ps3 if u buy a lcd hdtv. not sure if that offer still stands or not but good luck with what ever u choose.

Motorstorm is a great game, so go with the 80 gig cause you'll appreciate more space in the long run. The majority of popular ps2/ps1 games work fine on the 80 gig and they constantly update the backward compatability catalog. Anyone else notice since the update last week that Motorstorm's motion sensing control is 10 times better, and is dead on now, cause I sure do.
