Getting a PS3 this week...where do I start?

I am finally pulling the trigger and picking up a PS3 this week. I plan on importing Demon's Souls as soon as I get it, but I have no idea what game I should actually buy first, which is why I am here :)

I am looking to buy a first or thirdperson shooter, but I have no idea which one I should get:

• Killzone 2
• Resistance 2
• Warhawk
• Socom

My questions regarding these games are:

1. How large is the online community?
2. Does the game have dedicated servers or is it P2P?
3. Is there a decent number of Australians online? (playing with Americans gives me huge lag on xbox live)

Killzone 2 Is a different kind of FPS you won't like it. Get something else like... Uncharted 2

Killzone 2 has controls that some people find hard to get used to. I don't recommend getting it.

1. Online community is large if you play at the right time

2. Games have barely NO lag. I'm not really sure if they have dedicated. But online play is always free and not p2p

3. Depends, You can get some of your friends from Australia and get their PSN Id's so you guys can play.

Killzone 2 is still the best FPS on the PS3 in my opinion. It looks great, the Elite campaign is hard as nails, and as long as you take the time to learn your way, the online multi-playing is immense.

Some games are P2P, like UC2 and MW2 and so on, but some PS3 exclusives are dedicated servers like KZ2. I would get UC2, seeing as it has the largest online community out of all of themzbdyx

go buy uncharted series. its a must game for any PS3 owners. along with demons souls and killzone2 and you're ready to go.

My friend, I would get Demon's Souls like you originally planned, and Uncharted 1&2. Then I would wait until Battlefield: Bad Company 2 comes out March 3rd (not sure of the date, can someone confirm? First week of March, anyways) A lot of great things have been said about its online capabilities, and I do believe that it will have a very large online fanbase within hours of it release. Plus, it just plain looks fantastic.

well since you already got uncharted 2 now all you need is killzone 2. It's probably the best FPS on PS3 at the moment imo. Dont listen to the haters from what ive seen and heard their arent to many people who regret getting the game and the ones that do have unique taste

When I got my PS3 I went for the games I missed out on. I bought Greatest Hits games like Assassin's Creed and Bad Company. I also bought games that are cheap now like Soul Calibur 4 and so on, working my way up.

That's rubbish. You can't flat out say he wont like KZ2.

Anyway KZ2 and Resistance 2 are both good games in my opinion. They are different online since KZ2 has a class based squad system while Resistance has both class based co-op and then theres the regular online part which is decent. I can't answer your questions regarding the community since it's been a while since the last time I played.

Woot! Just picked up the 250GB uncharted 2 bundle! Now all I need to do is go buy killzone 2 and wait for demon's souls to arrive :)ahmedkandil

SOCOM has the largest user base on PSN and you would be wise to pick up the headset bundle. Already have a headset? I'd say get Killzone 2.

Get UC2 as you won't be dissapointed. It is a complete package with a great single player experience with a very addictive online gaming experience that adds platforming to make it unique. KZ2 is also a good pickup as well as the R&C games.

Worst.... advice... ever.... How you gonna tell that man he won't like it!? Tons of us LOVE that game and still play it regularly. I actually enjoyed the controls a lot. I like the heavier utilitarian feel. The shooting and the weapons are great, too. C'mon, man. I'm not saying he shouldn't get Uncharted 2 (he should!), but you can't just flat out tell him he won't like Killzone 2!

Modern Warfare 2 is really nice. Had it for 360 when it came out, got my PS3 for Xmas, love the community on the PS3 so much better, a lot less annoying kids.

KillZone 2 is great, gives u the real feeling of being in a war.
