I agree with MSG4 not being noob-friendly. But I did see Metal Gear Solid The Essential Collection (Parts 1-3) for $20 brand new on amazon.com. I just got my PS3 two days ago with that game. Trying to decide between buying that collection and then playing 4 or getting rid of 4.
how much money are you willing to spend on games? some older games out there are 20 bucks a piece. newer games are 60, so in essence, you could get 3 games for the price of one. Some cheaper, older titles are 1) BioShock- first person shooter with new elements and a kick-a$$ story(its really good) and its UNDER $20 2) Valkyria Chronicles wasn't yet mentioned, but its an amazing new-style type of RPG. it deserves a shot. 3) Burnout Paradise, for an awesome racing game, online and offline But as far as single player games, if you just wanna have fun you cannot forget about Grand Theft Auto IV. It's still fun offline and it kicks a$$ ONLINE. but if you have 60 bucks to spend on a game, do yourself a HUGE favor and get UNCHARTED 2: AMONG THIEVES!!!!-AMAZING ACTION PACKED, but you can't drive cars like Grand Theft Auto, but the story is too crazy!! hope i helped.
idk, I got Ninja Gaiden, MGS4, Valkyria Chronicles and Burnout I would recomend you the last 3 titles, I always regretted getting NG instead of DMC4, i don't mean that you should get DMC (though it looks sweet) but I felt NG was overrated. The graphics look really outdated, there is a LOT of backtracking, it's not really backtracking but scenarios repeat a lot, it has an awful camera etc. and btw I don't think NG2 is a lot better. MGS4 is awesome, you should definitely get it, the gameplay is perfect though the story is, well it's not that it's bad or hard to follow but it's not good enough to make anyone stand the inmense amount of dialogue there is Burnout is great, if you are planning to get a racing game get this one Valkyria is amazing though I scratched the CD before I could play more than 3 hours also I'm planning to get Uncharted 2 (that seems really nice), and Demon's Souls, you should give them a look. Again it depends on the kind of games you like, if you could point out a genre maybe I could give you better advice
surprised nobody mentioned little big planet. It's a creative collecting platformer. I normally don't like platformers, but LBP was awesome. Valkyria Chronicles - is not an rpg it's a turn based strategy game. If you like the gameplay then it's an awesome game. Great art, story, characters, gameplay it's really an underrated game.
Baseball fan? get MLB The Show 09 you will not be disappointed.
MGS4 is well worth the $30 price tag, also Killzone 2 should be $30 sometime this month as I do believe it's going to be a greatest hits or whatever. Uncharted 2 is amazing. My personal favorite PS3 title would be Demon's Souls but not for everyone. Honestly I'd go with MLB The Show or Uncharted 2 and downlod the heck outta some demo's.

Ninja Gaiden Sigma is essentially a port from the original Xbox, so obviously the graphics are going to appear dated. They fixed a lot of problems the original game had, and beefed up the difficulty and added some content. It's all-in-all a satisfying port. Ninja Gaiden Sigma 2 is infinitely better than the first game also.
Again I emphasize that MGS4 is not an average gamers game. The story is far too convoluted that to play it without knowledge of the first three games creates confusion and can ruin the entire experience.
Uncharted 2 Metal Gear Solid 4 Killzone 3 These are the three greatest games that you will ever buy. killzone 3? if I didnt liked killzone 2 I dont want to imagine killzone 3...

well its not like you miss THAT much from the first game. and the second is a lot better.
