Getting MGS4 soon...

Okay i'm getting MGS4 soon... Do i need to have played 123? If i do is there anywhere i can find out the story online?

Most likely you will. Although I didn't played neither of them, I still enjoyed it a lot, just I didn't understant anything lol. And there's MGS1 on the PSN store. :)

Well, you can still enjoy MGS4 for what it is, without knowing the story. However, if you have a better understanding of the story, MGS4 will leave a WAAY bigger impression on you. Sure you could read up about it on Wiki.. but hell you'd definately have a better time playing the games and finding out the story for yourself that way. It would be a very good expierience for you, as a gamer as well. Anyways, you can get 1,2,3 in one entire package. Its called MGS:Essentials, and you can find it at Gamestop\EB. Its only $30 as well. Awesome deal.

You could look it up online "BUT" you could also skip playing 1 and 2 and just get 3 because technically 3 is where the story begins. Snake Eater(MGS3) is still a blast to play through( even though the graphics look a little dated) the gameplay is still solid!!!

just download the metal gear solid database thing off psn...it'll give you the lowdown on everything you need to know about metal gear

I found that pretty usefull.

you can go on youtube and look up walktroughs for all the first three games

why dont you just get the metal gear solid essential collection, u can get it on amazon for only 30 bucks, (if u have a ps2, u can play it, any real gamer has a ps2) and mgs4 is only 30 bucks now under the greatest hits, so both for only around 60 bucks

My PSN friend never played 1-3 before he played MGS4, but he said it's the best game he's ever played.

I played MGS4 before the others and I was fine, MGS4 made me play the other games though.

I think it would definately have more of an impact on you if you actually played 1-3 first. It's a great game regardless, but if you've followed the characters through the last games, the events of MGS4 will be a whole lot more significant.

I seriously think you would enjoy MGS4 at LEAST 10x more if you play the others before it.

i think game trailers have a few videos covering the history of metal gear without spoiling mgs4, give it a search.

You don't need to play the first three games. because honestly after MGS2 the story just gets plain stupid. If you like daft stories that think they're complex then play all three games. Otherwise just play MGS4 and maybe MGS1. As these are the only two games worth playing. MGS3 (subsistence) is worth playing also but I would avoid the normal MGS3 personally.
