I select wireless and it picks up my internet. It then wants a WPA key. What is that and how do I find it? PLEASE CAN SOMEBODY HELP ME

WPA Key is the password you need to access the wireless internet through a secured wireless router. If your Internet is secured then you need to put this password in. If it's not then make sure that when you're going through your connection settings you are selecting the option for unsecured.
I'm guessing you have it secured, and just don't know the password. What kind of wireless router do you have?
SETUP LINKSYS WIRELESS ROUTER:
Follow these instructions for Linksys:
Step 1:
Open a web browsersuch as Internet Explorer.
Step 2:
Go to the Address bar and enter your router's IP address ("192.168.1.1" is the default IP of most Linksys routers) then press [Enter].
Step 3:
When the router's web-based setup page appears, click Applications& Gaming thenclick DMZ.
Step 4:
Select Enable on DMZ and under DMZ Host IP Address enter the PlayStation®3's IP address.
- Try 192.168.1.10 or 192.168.1.20 Save Settings.
- This IP address will need to typed in manually during online setup on ps3. I think its the first address you enter (I think this is the game'sIP address).
- Use 192.168.1.1 for thewireless router's IP address on your PS3.
Step 5:
Now, click Administration and Disable UPnP. Make sure you also disable UPnP on your ps3 online setup. Save Settings.
Step 6:
Click Status. Write down the DNS 1: dns number and DNS 2: dns number on a piece of paper. You will enter these for DNS 1 and DNS 2 numbers during online ps3 setup. NOTE: The IP address listed on the Status page for your wireless router is not used for any setup on your ps3. Remember, to get into ps3 online setup, you have to choose Manual during setup so you can enter these numbers.
Step 7:
The WP key crap and whatever during online setup should be skipped unless you specifically setup somekind of password for your wireless router when you installed it. I didn't and just left that part blank and skipped over it.
That should get your wireless router and game setup. If you're still stuck, drop me a message.
One more thing, do this after that setup:
I have a ps3 and did all of the wireless and ps3 online setup for it using their site technical support. Doing that seemed to throw a monkey wrench into my internet connection a while after that. I just left all of my game settings in place and did this:
Logon on to your wireless router. To do this, you will probably go to http://192.168.1.1/ by typing this address into your address box on your internet explorer. Logon. If you don't know how to logon, go to http://www.linksys.com/ and follow the instructions in technical support.
Now, go to this web page and it will specifically get your computer that is connected with an ethernet cable to the router going:
http://linksys.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/linksys.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_faqid=4031&lid=5584161879B07
If that doesn't work, check around the linksys site and see if you can get some more information from there. I have a wireless laptop that I had to use to change my router settings because my other pc wouldn't get a connection to the internet.
If you open all your ports, you open up to hackers and viruses. You lose all your firewall protection.
DO NOT PUT YOUR ROUTER IN DMZ mode.
Instead on the Linksys site, go to Port Fowarding and open up these (I found in the PLaystation Manual):
The port numbers for PLAYSTATIONNetwork servers used for this are TCP: 80, 443, 5223 and UDP: 3478, 3479.
For voice / video chat and online game play, direct communication with other PS3TM systems is used for data transmission during voice / video chat and online gaming. The port number used for this is UDP: 3658. However, you may need to use a different port number whenyou are connected using a NAT router.
DO NOT OPEN UP YOUR ROUTER, DMZ IS BAD. I don't understand why people recommend doing this. It may be the easy way out, but just take a little more effort and keep your firewalls up.

Your issue is not with firewall settings, which DMZ deals with. You have a problem with network access via router.
Try a password like 0102030405. Or go onto the linksys site that was supplied with your router to find the default password. If you can't find anything, call up linksys or use their livechat assistance.
If you open all your ports, you open up to hackers and viruses. You lose all your firewall protection.

Wait.. .I just put something in the DMZ zone so I can connect to COD4 servers (since it was having problems). But I put in a specific ip address that was assigned to my ps3 (by me)... is it still bad??

Try taking your router back out of DMZ settings, and opening up the ports I said. DMZ only has to do with firewalls, not your IP address.

Ok, when I take it out of DMZ, will it automatically disconnect my PS3? In the 2 step process of doing the DMZ thing, (first assigning custom and static IP to your PS3 then using the custom IP in the DMZ section of the router) it wouldn't let me connnect to the internet when only the 1st step was done (i.e. before DMZ was enabled).
Can I just disable DMZ and then type in which ports to open? Or do I have to redo the whole process?
