I am getting a 80GB PS3 next week. I havent read much about ps3, I have only seen a few things here and there since its release. I own a PS2 and I have alot of games for it plus some of my old favorite PSX games. I have heard the PS3 Backwards compatibility emulation isnt as good as actually having a ps2 on hand to play your games plus PSX games. Now my question would be is has this been fixed, should I not put my ps2 in my old systems box in my basement incase I wan't to go back and play my games at there normal visual quality. This won't stop me from getting a PS3 at all, I just want to know if I should keep my PS2 in my entertainment center.

You should probably keep your PS2 just in case. The PS3 has the PSone hardware in it, so no porblems with those games. (yes, even the 80GB version!)

Emulation is just never quite the same, I would just try out the games you care about when you get your PS3.

If you really want to play PS1/PS2 games after you purchase PS3 I'd suggest you keep your PS2.

However, both 60GB (recommended for B/C) and 80GB will play most previous generation games.

I kept my PS2, but I haven't found myself using it after purchasing 60GB half a year ago.

ok first off the 80gb has about 80-85% compatiblity with PS2 games. For PSone games, all PS3s are the same because they all use software emulation.

If you want to see what games are compatble with the 80gb go here:

http://www.us.playstation.com/Support/CompatibleStatus

It has a search engine that shows the compatbility status for any game you type in for the 60gb or 80gb.

Your welcome.

I have just the 60 gb and my PS3 has played every PS2 and PS1 game I've tried so far. That also includes blue back discs for the PS2. I can't tell you whether or not to keep your PS2 out. I never had a PS2, my last game console was that toy known as the Gamecube.

I have the 60 gig that had the EE chip and have had little to no problem with any PS/PS2 game, the few times there was a minor problem it was usually corrected at a later date with firmware updates. As for the 80 gig SKU if it does the same thing that has been doing with the 60 gig SKU the difference between the two will non in a short time. It could be that the 40 gig SKU will do the same thing in due time.

Don't forget, if you want to play PS2 games on your PS3 console with your previous ps2 save data you must buy the memory card adapter which is like 15 bucks and if you like to play it over again make an internal memory for the PS2 which is located on the internal memory XMB (cross media bar) if you wondering. im pretty much own the PS3 60gb so i dont have to worry, but since your getting the 80gb you must update your ps3 and lets hope they play one of your favorite ps1 or ps2 games and Congratulation getting a PS3 dude. Also try to download some demos cuz there games that might interest you.

The 80 gig will play all your ps1 games, and chances are good that it will play all your ps2 games. And upscale them somewhat to boot. I moved my ps2 out of the living room (use it as a dvd player in the bedroom now). The only games I have to pull it back out for are things like Guitar Hero (don't have a ps3 compatible guitar controller yet). After I get GH3 and Rock band, this will no longer bew an issue. Also, my wife still plays FFXI on the ps2 (I play on the PC). Once I upgrade my ps3 harddrive, I'll probably put her ffxi onto the ps3. at that point, I'll probably put my ps2 with my ps1, gamecube, n64, snes and nes.
