yea ofcourse, i mean yes we all love price drops, but the things that ps3 offers in one system is a bargin, do u know blue-ray players go to 2000 to 3000 a pop!? and u get free internet, 60gb, blue ray, wireless controller, backward compatiblity, etc. etc. , so yea IMO i think its worth it, i havent looked back or even thought about the price.
Thank you, you two. Now tell me why you think it is.jackie_chan13Ask them why in the first post, random person, instead of asking them one then asking them again ..
ya,u are absolutelu right
Do I think the PS3 is worth 600 dollars hrmmm... put it this way. You have the 360, lets say you buy the premium for 399.99 and then spend 199.99 on the HD-DVD player and then another 99.99 on the wireless card. Thats roughly $700... and yet I can get the PS3 with HDMI (premium 360 doesn't support this) and more processing power for cheaper. $600 may seem steep, however, you get a lot of features for that price.Handin
Do you see the PS3 being worth the money right now?jackie_chan13
As a gaming console: No. But if you're the type that doesn't mind waiting for a console to develop a good library then that's no problem. It's going to be amazing in a few months.
As a Blu-ray player: Of course.
As a long term investment: Just look at what other systems offer compared to the PS3. Nuff Said.
There are factors that only you can decide. I personally bought one as I had/have some good cash flow and it wasn't too much money to me. Right now I would say it has cost me about $7 an hour for entertainment ($700 + $200 in games and movie rentals divided by about 130 hours)... and that's only in about 4 months. That's cheap in my world, but could be expensive in others. And of course it will be much cheaper when the amount of time I've spent on it rises to the thousands of hours mark.
The other factor is do you have a good HD TV, and how much do you care about blu-ray? To be honest, I didn't even know what blu-ray was when I bought my PS3, and didn't even know that the PS3 had it. I just heard the hardware is supposed to be the best for the games, I was familiar with PS2, and pulled the trigger. But now that I have been introduced to blu-ray... I am pretty much a blu-ray snob now (I do own a 1080p tv).
From a pure gaming standpoint, I can honestly say that it probably isn't worth it right now. However, I don't forsee a price drop coming too soon... and there are plenty of highly anticipated games on the way. I would say that by the holiday season, it will most definitely be worth it, and if you get one now... the three consensus best games out (RFOM, Motorstorm, and Oblivion) should keep you busy enough until more titles come out in the summer.

I honestly think that the systems is not worth it at the time. Sure you have all of the bells and ribbons, but the price is ridiculous.
People say "Not a lot of games for PS3". I say "well how much $ do you have" the games are $60 each. 2 games $120 + tax!casey7672
When people say there aren't a lot of games out for the PS3 they're not referring to quantity so much as a good number of quality games.

I agree with this guy.
Yup so far its been worth it. I own a 360, PS3 and Wii. PS3 is the best actual hardware (quieter and more reliable than 360, much better graphics than Wii). XMB interface is very easy to get around.
While I would have to say 360s online service is the best so far, the Playstation Network is still very good. Online multiplayer is lag free and the PSN store is starting to consistently get new content in every week (trailers, demos, downloadable games). Both services are FAR better than the Wii's meager online services (Virtual console is only thing going for it now, NO ONLINE MULTIPLAYER?).
Games so far are pretty good too, notables: Resistance, Motorstorm, Oblivion, Virtua Figher and the EA/2k sports games. Anyone who complains about the PS3 game lineup forgets about the first six months of the 360 last year (only good game was Call of Duty 2 until Oblivion came out). While I bought the system for the line up of games out (and coming out), Blu Ray was a positive factor in my decision to buy a PS3. I have an HDTV and I'd actually would like to watch HD content (gasp!) as well as play HD games. Believe it or not, I actually want to buy Blu Ray movies in addition to my games.
Unlike the 360 I can actually play most of my past generation games. (2-300 Xbox games playable vs. how many thousands of PS1 and PS2 games?) The Wii has great Backward compatibility and Virtual Console is great too.
