Ok, after I put in the key of the ram. I go through the door and fight all the baddies. Easy enough. I go back to get the magic chest and then jog forward to continue my quest. As I exit the room, the game just freezes. I tried 4-5 times and it keeps happening. I could save it after the fight but I can't move on.

Well, you can get get a wet paper towel, wipe it, then wipe it with a dry paper towel...OR you could buy disc cleaner (yes they sell it)...screen cleaner probably would also work

yeah but don't these disc cleaners cost like 10-15 dollars? I only paid, like, 17 dollars for a used copy.

Um, unless your disk is packed with dirt and hair/fur, you can't "clean it" anymore than it already is.

Do this.........Use toothpaste on the disc all over it and try to rub it in almost not to hard though. Let it set for like a min. Then use just some warm water and dry it off real good then give it a try. For some reason that always seems to work for me. MY buddy for example had twisted metal 1 and it was scratched to hell but after the toothpaste trick it booted up just fine.
