You, my gamespot friend, are over analysing the ending. Its not all rational...you know? Its like me saying, OK how the hell does Kratos die sticking a sword threw himself, but when he's fine and dandy after getting crushed by a GIANT 10 TON mace that an enormous Ogre is holding...?
Just enjoy it and move on.
lol dudeeeeeeeee.
You havnet played this game and you're reading the ending spoiler lol.
And yes, the game is phenominal...About 10-12 hours long, plus replayability with skins and different modes etc.

yeah thanx but i dont know what he means so really i still dont know how god of war ends and i dont what to know
idk, they interviewed gow team, and they said its the end of the trilogy but there will be more god of war games?!? so maybe like they go back and redo stuff or somin.. i have no ideaMeh, the ending was fine and the game was amazing as a whole. Only sad thing was knowing it was the end of the trilogy and the end of Kratos. I want another GoW game......even if i have to wait another 3 years!!!

It's not a simple sword. It's the Blade of Olympus. With this Blade Zeus had managed to beat all those Titans and win the Great War. Also, with this blade Zeus killed Kratos in GOW2 once.
TC, I liked the story but I didn't like the final battle. It was the most anti-epic battle of the game. I think in the box should be a power even bigger than that from GOW1 and when Kratos opens the box the power goes in the blade of Olympus, which should be your only weapon you could use in the battle with Zeus. And the battle should have more epic stages.

There were some hints in GoW3, such as Gaia and Zues talking at the end when they mentioned "the other". My personal guess is maybe this is Kratos' brother, who was mentioned in old GoW1 or GoW2 (dont remember which) "making of" bonus videos. Maybe this guy becomes the new main character of the series? Who knows....
Of course, there is that interesting ending video (after the credits), which some people have been guessing about.
While I agree that the ending sucked and was completely random, I don't think you understood the ending. When Kratos opened the box in GOW1, he unleashed the evils on the gods while he absorbed hope. He didn't know he had hope until the end of GOW3. When he killed each boss in GOW3, the evils that were in them were unleashed on humanity (plagues, fear, darkness blah, blah, blah,) so instead of handing hope to athena, he decided to kill himself and give hope to humanity instead. the end. Credits roll, then we see that kratos' body is missing, thus giving his fans "hope" that he might still be alive... anyways, my problem with the ending was simply the presentation, it was so lifeless and so random (i.e, the game didn't do a good job of working its way there).verbalfilthPersonally, I have completely understood the story but I didn't like much the part of hope in the story. I found it quite naive. It should be a bigger power in the box. That could make the game even more interesting. But still the game deserves a big 10/10.
To TC,
According to actual Greek mythology, hope was the last thing that came out of the box when Pandora opened it, just throwing that out there.
dagger102
Wow, you are right. All this time (especially after watching the making of videos), i just thought the developers pulled the Hope thing out of their a**es. But, wikipedia does say this.....that hope was the only thing that remained in the box.
Yup, ending was a major letdown Hope?.... WTF???
I had thought about something that would be a good ending. When you kill Zeus all the evil and sh*t returns to pandora's box and the world gets back to normal, ending the reign of the gods of olympus and ancient times of greek mythology. Is it so hard to think about something like that?
edit: ok hope, was the last thing on the box, that might be ok. But the world left in chaos, there is no excuse for that.
I dont see how it was a bad ending? It was nearly perfect, and a great end to the God of War Trilogy. Sure, the bit of cliffhanger ending with Kratos' body missing followed by a trail of blood stain.. probably won't mean a thing since this IS the last GOW game.. It was probably done that way so it will leave us filled with "HOPE." That Kratos may be still alive, for whatever reason.. I could care less. GOW3 is an excellent game. EPIC in every way.. and that ending was soooo well done. I beat Zeus to a bloody pulp. I kept pressing "O" even after the screen went completely bloody red.. I was like, "DIE you BASTARD." This is for all the painstaking trial and error runs, along with brutal gameplay on GOD mode. "Keeps pressing "O." Rawrarrggghhh! LOL. The ending allowed us to live out Kratos' retribution. Smashing down each QTE was extremely satisfying.. It was just perfect. Couldn't have ended it any other way. Elian2530
This.
I dont see how people are finding the ending random or confusing, it is not random at all, it follows along the lines of the original mythology and fits well in the ending.

"In the end, there will only be chaos" ... and hope :P
it shouldve been a shotgun in the box. that wouldve given zeus a good lesson.LoG-SacramentLet me tell you, i would rather have a shotgun then hope xD
Yea if you saw the ending of the video credits, Kratos isnt lying there dead, instead you just see a trail of blood going down the mountain, meaning hes still alive lol. Or got dragged away by wolves. But yea, I doubt its the end of Kratos...This franchise is a moneymaker, plus they have the engine designed already.

At first I felt the same way. I was like, "wtf, that's IT!?". You kill the strongest gods and that's it? Then I got to thinking about it and then kept thinking it was actually pretty decent. The whole game pretty much shows you how these gods were protecting the earth and most of it's inhabitants by doing what they did. Helios was the sun god, bringing light to earth. Without him the world lives in darkness. I believe hermes was the plague that was killing everyone after he died, so he kept them alive in that respect. Poseidon and Zeus help control overpopulation in the world by controlling the elements. They also aided in keeping people safe with different water levels and winds and such. All these gods had a purpose to maintain the balance of the world. Kratos absolutely destroyed this, sending the entire world into chaos, for his own vengeance. I believe in the end he killed himself mostly to give hope back to the world, but also because wtf was he going to do? He destroyed the entire planet basically and didn't trust his powers with Athena, a god. I can't really explain it, but it was still good, although I would have of course liked to see Kratos live on, even though death cannot hold him regardless. Also like others have said, this is supposed to be the end of the trilogy as we know it. I hear they're wanting to make more God of War games, just not for that specific trilogy. It would definitely be cool to see a story line go along with this one in whatever way that could be. Sort of intertwine them, but with different characters. I don't know who can be more bad*($@ than Kratos though.Ghost_702His brother...

Gods sent her to the man kind with her box just to get vengeance, because Prometheus took the fire from them and gave it to the human beings.[QUOTE="verbalfilth"]While I agree that the ending sucked and was completely random, I don't think you understood the ending. Ending, finding hope in Pandora's box? WTF? Highly disappointing. Running threw the dark with Pandora saying "This way!" and "I can show you the way" one hundred times is as annoying as taking care of Ashly in RE4. But back to the main disappointment. you kill all the gods, and for the last one.. you need "hope" to kill him.. umm ok? seems like it was added in last minute, like they did the whole game and then at the end said... well... the power to kill a god is.. uhh.. HOPE! perfect. I know that something needed to be in the box or whatever, but there could be something other then hope! and what does Kratos do when he gets this all powerful hope? He punches Zeus in the face infinite amount of times. Oh and don't forget he stabs himself....yeah... Amazing game, until the end. Tell me what you think should be in the box, and if you feel the same!?? kreativekylexxxKratos got the power to kill the gods from pandora's box in GOW1, he found out at the end of 3, how do you think he was able to kill them and take down titans throung out the adventure. Kronos couldn't even squash him,
So is this game going to win all the Game of The Year awards for 2010 like most people are saying?Lostboy1224The year is still early, but if its going to be a barrage of shallow games, I guess its a strong contender for GOTY. If there's going to be a unique, innovative games released this year (I'm looking at you Last Guardian) then GOW III doesn't have a chance. Of course, my opinion is directed towards Gamespot's GOTY award, and not their user voted award.
Also, games like Alan Wake and the sort are yet to be revealed.
i agree i hated the hope thing i which they had just kept it" the power".i think it was because they laid it on to thick with the hope that it made it seem corny i liked the ending but the hope was jjust corny.the reason kratos could kill all the gods is because he had the hope power all along( ever since the first game) when he fights zues is when you see the hope but he had it the whole time.just to let you know it was put in last minute if you watch the making of god of war 3 you hear stig the director tell the staff they are changing it to hope.

haha yeah, i saw that, which really gave me the idea, last minute tack on = bad ending.

Agreed. I don't believe it will take home overall GOTY. yea he had Teh Powah of Hope in him. wtf was that about? so corny, cheesy, cliche, fairy tale moral of the story pos. ughhhh.....i hate it!!!! HOPE HOPE HOPE HOPE HOOOOOOOOPE!!!!!! gaaaahhh!!! 5 years into building an epic story and the quest for vengeance was made possible through the hope in Kratos' heart. come on now. is this some kind of soap opera or something?! *head explodes*

ya i totaly agree with you, and wouldnt it be crazy if in the next god of war game u were to be kratos's brother doing everything he can to restore peace to the world while seeking distruction on the distroyer of the gods, kratos. just imagine the final confrentation you vs. the one who is the distroyer of your world, only wining because of him, and the hope he has given u. idk would be a great idea if done right, just dont know who you would fight as bosses!!!
same here, but ppl still think that the hope thing is cheesy for kratos, i loved the game to be honest with u and love greek mythology, even though gow doesnt follow it 100%, there still some to it which is why i also love the game :)I do love some Greek mythology.:P
dagger102
P.S. for those who said the story sucks then i dont know wat to tell ya besides its ur opinion, but honestly its the last game, wat else is there besides killing zues or the other gods, most of the story was told in gow1 and 2. 3 was suppose to be more of action and alil bit less story cuz like i said, there really isnt anythin else to say in god of war 3, it was just about kratos fighting his way to the last battle, yea i guess they could of added abit more to it and wat not, but overall i think the game, and story was fantastic, but i guess thats my opinion huh :S

this is literally the exact way that i felt about the ending. I thought that the idea and overall message the ending was trying to convey was good but the presentation was just lousy and really anti-climatic. also, I really hope that Kratos isn't alive because really, Kratos's story is done. He killed Zeus and got his revenge. There is nothing left for Kratos to do or any reason for him to continue fighting. So I'm kinda just hoping that that video at the end is just the result of someone dragging Kratos's body done to Hades.

Exactly, and I think they did a good job of trying to show the player as you played the game that Kratos was inadvertently destroying the world. there were times were I was almost troubled by what I was doing because really, the Gods of Olympus weren't evil, they were just loyal to Olympus and Zeus. they thought they were doing the right thing which was protecting humanity from the wrath of Kratos, and in reality they were. The only God that deserved to die was Zeus for being an a$$. And in the end, Kratos realized that all his vengeance got him was the end of the world.
