Sony needs to make god of war an open world rpg. It could be sony's Zelda. Given the type of game god of war is there is a lot of material for the developers to work with.

I could see it. However, I think Kratos's time has passed. There's only so many spin offs they can make before they start killing it.

Now that Kratos's story is done with I don't mind if Sony experiments with the franchise now.

games like zelda and GoW are more into action adventure/rpg, rpg doesnt play a strong role in these games but they also exist to some extent such as having a magic meter. but an open world will just throw off the games gameplay, GoW needs to be different and fresh and new, and not stick to same type of battle system, it feels old

No I would rather wish they come up with something else other than God of War world for this kind of game. EDIT: something like Folklore universe, you know, Halloween-themed stuff combined with Celtic folklores... with the ability to use different souls of captured enemies too.

They should create a new game, in which you make a new character and explore the world post Kratos.

They should emulate how Mass Effect did a Shooter/RPG hypbrid, just GOW gameplay/RPG hybrid in contrast to how GOW normally works. It would also be cool if they emulated how mass effect has old game's save files effect the next game and such.

That's what Demons Souls needed. A bigger/better world, with more rpg elements, rather than just character and weapon building.

kratos looks at rpg's with great displeasure...no, but really i think it would just sully the name of a good franchise. milikn it is popular and all these days but i think its time for old boy to hang the blades up and kick off his sandals and enjoy retirement.

jasonharris48

correct, its an action adventure game and its one of my favorite gaming series.

And on topic I think god of war is fine the way it is, yea some things will need to change to keep it fresh but its pacing and set pieces are excellent just the way they are and changing it into a completely different genre is not the right direction for it IMO. Besides I dont think kratos is the kind of guy who would take his adventure slow or go around talking to people in towns, vengeance waits for no one.

I find Kratos as a protagonist to be completely boring and shallow.. I've played all 3 God of War games trying to find what people think is so great about them and was rewarded with a mediocre hack n slash with a boring predictable story, the genre itself is flawed and they should stop making GoW game entirely or bring in someone who knows how to put a proper story/ gameplay together.. Example of a great hack n slash.. DMC3, Bayonetta, hell i even though Dante's Inferno was a better take on the genre then GoW.. at least it was original in a few of its concepts. GoW replaces story and content with extreme gore and eye candy.. /rant

There is hardly enough story to make that more than a 5 hours game... Mass Effect worked because it had an amazingly huge story and backstory for every character and place in the game.. GoW is too simple for that.

Thats why you set it in the world afterwards. Like in the aftermath, you can create new characters, new stories, a whole new thing. Use the same world, build something completely new off of it.

Dante's Inferno original? It was a cliched "save the damsel in distress" story shoehorned into a 700 year-old poem.

BOTH OF YOU ARE WRONG!

God of War is one of the best trilogies in gaming, just because it doesn't have the depth of NG and DMC doesn't make it any less entertaining, course it is up to the individual but none can deny the effect GOW has had on the genre. And DMC3 along with DMC1 are the best in the franchise, Dante is awesome in DMC3 whereas in DMC2 he doesn't even act like Dante but more as a brick wall. Sure in the original he wasn't as cocky but no way was he the silent type, you just knew this guy was wild in his youth and DMC3 fully realised that, not to mention it has the best gameplay in the series :)

nonono i love god of war i think its fantastic i was merely stating the fact that DMC 3 was ruined by dante's cockyness i thought the second was also better for story IMO but first being best for story

The GOW related response was for Mr PoisoN. And as far as Dante goes he was always cocky, even in the first title. Remember when he told the giant bird to flock off, or the the part where he said to the giant spider that for his sake he better have something inside? you know like a Pinata, lol. Sure it wasn't extreme cockiness but you have to remember that Dante is a much younger in DMC3, being cocky is part of what makes Dante erm Dante. The guy knows he can kick anyone's arse, his a half demon bad-ass and enjoys it. Showing off and acting up is part of the package, that's why Dante is such an iconic character and It really grinds my gears that Capcom is one again messing with the formula this time to the extreme in the upcoming title, it didn't work with DMC2 and it won't work here.
