1. online is free as in the service... playing online is free, games and some add-ons cost money

free, wallpapers, themes, vids, demos, some add-ons, and others

2. why are u talking about MGS3??? its a ps3 not a ps2

3. online not laggy. only laggy if u have bad connection, host has bad connection, or the game has a online issue

games that have online problems:

-army of two (don't know if its fixed)

i luv my ps3 personally and it will last a life time.... i had my ps3 on for 11 hrs once, not even hot when i was shuting it off (amazing it was shooting out cold air)

The ps3 online is completely free.

It doesn't have any lags, unless, like chuiv mentioned, you have a bad connection, or the host has a bad connection.

360 fanboys make the ps3 sound horrible, don't believe any 360 owner that talks about a ps3 unless they have it.

the jeffdoomsday user most probably never had a ps3, and is just backing up on a weak console (360) which I also have.

Oh please, I have a 40 GB ps3 console with six games and I'm giving an unbiased opinion.

PS3 is awesome. Free online but you have to pay for most add-ons but demos, themes, videos, wallpapers are free. There is only lag only if you have bad connection. Congrats on the purchase!

Don't buy a ps3 because it's more reliable, the new 360 models have greatly improved the reliability, I was just like you back in late January and I bought a ps3, 3 months later I'm unsatisfied with the ps3 games and I buy a 360, just go with whatever system has better games in your opinion.jeffdoomsday

Nothing wrong with your opinion, but I'm not sure you own one... I call it a hunch.

Anyway, the system is great, for many reasons. It has a lot of games now, even if a lot are third party. (360 owners like to think there only on xbox). It has a lot of exclusives as well on they way. Your money will be well spent.

Online play works like a charm, even better then my PC for some reason. I have not had any issues, though that's not to say people haven't. But most likely it is there connection.

If you have a gaming PC, then you are set for the other exclusives. If not then maybe buying a 360 is a good idea. I'd wait until they work though. Gaming and being worried it is on it's last legs is never fun.

If your number one priority is online gaming then buy a 360, take it from someone who owns both systems that ps3 online service may be free but xbox live is a robust, user friendly online community.

Really it comes down to what system you like BEtter.

Yes Ps3 Online is Free. People Say its laggy (mostly 360 fanboys say this)...just today i heard that. However dont let that get to you, because it is a lie. The reason sony is known for online lag is because of the ps2 allowing dial connections to play online (which i thought was nice since i had a dial up for some time). Ps3 is freash tho, no online issues enough for me to say Xbox is better. THE ONLY AND ONLY THING xbox has better online is the ingame option to talk to friends and send invites. Ps3 currently cant view its xmb ingame (although most new games do give this option so its not a problem). HOWEVER SONY IS FIXING THIS PROBLEM, pretty soon patches will include: INgame XMB(which matches live), Improved market (the most recent patch, now we match marketplace), and LAST, PLAYSTATION HOME (which is going to be a fun 2nd life that will include acheivments, ect.). So within the Year, Sonys online is me equaly matched (and did i say its completely Free?

Game Wise: Ps3 now has games in its favor. Big hitters like Killzone 2, Metal Gear solid 4, Socom: Confrontation, God of War, Kingdom Hearts, and grand turismo will be exclusives that are in ps3 favor. Xbox exclusives are already released and old. Halo 3 is old (which btw was a flop since Halo 2 is more or less the same thing), Bioshock 1 (great game, but Bioshock 2 may be coming for ps3,actually theres a good chance it is), Gears of War(great game, im a tad jealous about gow2, however 1 great game doesnt jusitify it). Really what exlcusives do you like better?

Blu-ray: BAsically ps3 technology is far more advanced than xbox. 360 uses a a disc that is now discontinued. With ps3 you potnetionally get far more devoloped games on a blu-ray (shown with metal gear) and you get a nice blu-ray player.

Sixaxis-love the controllers, i mean its motion censored. Racing games=fun now???

I bought a ps3 on these statements, and im glad with my decsions. I love how ps3 is a "advanced" system. I could sit here and bash xbox how it breaks, no wifi, crappy mics, only 4 player support, ect, ect. But i wont, because im not here to dis 360 (god bless microsoft, They made alot of money on that system, making alot of people happy) however i think 2008+ the system will be ps3

I own both and my personal opinion -

Bought a core at launch - replaced the fans in the back and its still working.

Decided to get an elite, red lights of death shortly after 4 months.

Sent in for repair and a month later I get a refurb with dust completely covering the fans and discoloration from cigarette smoke.

This is when I went and got a PS3 and I am so glad I did. Im not trying to bash the 360 obviously I bought 2, but I dont like feeling ripped off. Games I have - Grand Turismo 5 Prolouge -Amazing!!!! Forza 2 showing its age. Uncharted - Amazing, MLB The Show 08 Best Baseball sim Ive played. Blue-Ray and an updated Blue-Ray at that. I have not any any issues with online play. I also have Warhawk and Ive had no online issues. The biggest draw back to the online is alot of older games do not support voice chat but this is changing. If you have a hdtv 1080p you wont regret it. BTW you can upgrade the harddrive with a laptop harddrive of any size. Sony provides the software for backing up and formatting the new drive.

Like I said I have both systems but even the biggest Sony fanboy cannot say Sony's online is on par with Xbox live and probably never will. Not that its not great for free but thats why xbox live is the monster that it is because you pay for it which is fine by me since its only $4.70 per month and if Sony wanted to charge for something just as good I would be happy to shell out the doe.

1) Yes. You can play online against opponents for free. It's also very easy and very convenient. Much like any other online system, there are games and other forms of downloadable content that you would have to pay for if you want.

2) So far I haven't noticed it happening.

3) I haven't played a lot online on any of my consoles (I own all 3) but Resistance wasn't lagging when I played it.

1. PS3 online really is free

2. I don't know (MGS3 isn't for PS3)

3. COD4 is a little laggy sometimes, your character will stop and it will say "Connection Interrupted", then it'll freak out and get out of that match. It happens about once every five matches, though.

1. Yes the ps3 online is completely free

2. kojima has stated that Metal Gear Online servers are going to be supported for the next 10 years, with map packs and expansions to be released.

3. dont own a ps3 yet, but i can tell you #2 is confirmed by kojima, just google MGO servers to be supported for 10 years

I actually agree with this dude... I really dont like the 360 games so I got a Ps3 but realiability is not really an issuse now.

Here is a good way to sum it up most games are multiplat, but if you like free online play, blu ray, external hard drive, ability to change your operating system like to windows, A good variety of games, the thought of Home, the thought of PlayTV, and psp capabilities then I say PS3 is where it is at.

Now if you like fps, getting things first, Bill Gates, uh Halo, ummmm Gears of War, oh yea Fable and Ninja Gaiden and Splinter Cell... yea and ummmm did I say FPS.........................Man I don't know what the good is but I know people like it...lol

PS3's online works well enough and is free, but it loses a lot of the sense of community that the 360's online has.

You can't just jump into a game your friend is playing, the system doesn't come standard with a headset, you can't read messages or accept friend requests from inside games unless the developers put it in on their own, and I'm sure theres some other things I'm forgetting.

That said, my brother-in-law is a big online first person shooter fan and he has a clan going for both rainbow six vegas 2 and call of duty 4, and although it seems like a bit more work he seems to have things sorted out. I don't play online that much myself, just burnout paradise and warhawk every now and then.
