I got this when it first came out and loved it. I maybe got maybe 6 hours into and stopped. Looking back, I'm not sure why. Perhaps I wasn't ready for such a content rich and time consuming game. Regardless, I haven't touched it since. Now I'm wondering if I should start from scratch or pick up where I left off. I've pretty much forgotten what's going on but I'm sure I could get back into it fairly easily. So, anyone step away from it for 6 months or more and then go back or did you start over?

I say you start over. Get through the gruesome beginning because Oblivion starts off very slowly for the first couple of hours then the game gets better. You can also try making crazy classes and funny looking characters.

The more you elvel up, the more things you're able to do, and the funner it gets. I played with one character for over 100 hours, thats how fun it is.

i stopped playing for a while too. but it was because most of the game's content is incredibly boring. make an evil character and do the dark brotherhood quests if you want some fun.

I agree that the dark brotherhood is the best part of the game but disagree that the rest of the game is boring.

I see no problem with starting over. 6 hours isn't that much time.

The voice overs in it are absolutely terrible, almost everyone you speak to changes voices depending on what question you ask, the homeless folks sound old and homeless, then you ask a question, and suddenly they sound like radio announcers, then drop right back to old and decrepit? It didn't stop me from finishing the game, but, I mean, the voice overs were just awful...

Take advantage of the +5 modifiers when you level up. The monsters level up every time you do, so if your character is weak (no modifiers, or +2 mods) then the monsters will be harder to beat on higher levels. Increase skills in Endurance first, so you get more hit points earlier on in the game.

Remember to increase 10 levels in skills that you want +5 modifiers in. I made myself a chart so I could keep track of my skill increases. Do this, and your character will NOT suck.

Also, it helps to switch to a blunt weapon or h2h if those skills are very low to get the +5 modifier in strength, the lower the skill, the faster it levels up.

Start from the beginning. Choose a Redguard for a Fighter type, a Breton for the Mage type, and a Wood Elf if your a Archer/Thief type. Also when choosing your primary skills (the ones that determine when you level-up), choose the ones that you know you'll almost never use, or ones that are controllable (ones that you have to purposely use, such as any Magic Skill, Alchemy, and Armorer). The reason for this is that you want to take advantage of gaining +5 Ability pts. each level. Also the fact that enimies level up with you, so the slower you level-up, the more powerful you'll become.
