Blazblue CT would be quite nice. The community hasn't died now, has it? I'm still bombarded with Blazblue fight videos on YouTube after all.

Mortal Kombat is rather easy to learn along with Soul Caliber.

Mortal Kombat for sure. I like how it shows you what to press unlike games like Street Fighter saying HP+LP+HK .

I too recently got into fighting games when introduced to Tekken 6. It does have a learning curve due to the very large number of combos for each of the characters (over 40 I think), but I still recommend it to get into the genre. Just be warned, the online community is pretty intense, so winning as a newcomer is rather difficult.

Soul Calibur IV is really cheap now (I paid $5 for it a few months ago) and it's a pretty easy game to get into. It also has a terrible singleplayer mode, but the same could be said of a lot of fighting games.

Do not go with MK9 gets boring really fast, and isnt that fun.

Go for MVC3 or super street fighter 4 both great games and really fun.

One of the very first fighting games I played was Tekken 3... Though it's not nearly as good as T3, Tekken 6 is a good choice.
