I don't want to register with EA so I'm not gonna open it until I know. Otherwise I'll return it if I have to do anything with EA.

Nope. I never registered and got the Dragon PLate armor and the extra side missions. They become available after a little while of playing.

Maybe to get DLC that you pay for.
But I never signed up for anything and still got the Dragon Plate armor and the extra side missions. I think those are the only things that are included with disc though.

Right, but you purchased it, so you have no problem having something to do with them, since you're willing to give them your money. So why is registering a big deal?
The DLC was free up to january 1 2012 says the manual, if i recall correctlybarney_calhoun_

Really? That's good news. I was gonna buy it for someone but I didn't want her to miss out on the DLC.
When I bought my copy for $20 a few months ago, I noticed that the piece of paper with the code on it had an expiration date. Assuming all DLC codes have that same date, it has already passed and you couldn't download it for free anyway.

Whoops, sorry then, just assumedbarney_calhoun_Well, with EA you never really know. There may also be some people who had no luck - I remember back when I redeemed the boob DLC for the Saboteur about a year past its expiry date, it went through just fine, but someone else had theirs fail.
