i recentyl got a new hdtv, wasnt an expenisve one but was on special anyways. its an acer,

anyways i bought a HDMI cable aswell it was a $40 AU so i plugged in my ps3 and HDMI cable

but when i watch bluray movies as well as games i seem to gte a grainy texture like it looks like sand all over my screen, at some points you cant see it but genrally its quite annoying as you can see it all over the screen

also evrynow and then there are lines that run up the screen like a disturbance

has anyone else had this problem? anyone know how to fix it? is it beacsue of the TV or the Ps3? is that what you gte for buying a cheap tv?

I'm not sure, I kinda have the same problem, I got a pretty cheap but good HD ready, and sometimes (but still rarely) grainy textures come out of nowhere. Usually restarting my PS3 solves the problem but I really want to know the cause of this problem.

For example, while watching Casino Royale at certain parts it would get quite grainy while at others it would be crystal clear.

Some movies are just made like that, casino royal has some scenes like that and The Queen its Really noticeable, I have a higher end HDTV and I dont have any problems with grainy textures or those lines your talking about, so it might be a problem with your tv, but also keep in mind some things are supposed to be grainy , like 300.

Well I am having a similar problem and I don't know if it's the exact same thing but my XMB original wallpaper color has different color layers. It's so annoying looking at them. It's like someone was putting a pressure on the LCD or something. I first thought it was the HDMI cable so I bought another one which is the official PS3 HDMI cable but the problem was not solved. I switched my PS3 from HDMI to composite(Red, white and yellow) and the problem was solved. so it's either my HDTV HDMI input or my PS3 HDMI output that is not working correctly. I don't own another HDTV to test it so I can't really tell. I didn't try component. But I do know that something is wrong!!

im actually watching 300 know and thats were i noticed it the most, howeve i watched it at the movies and this grainyness is completly different. it actually looks like tiny black dots all over the screen, and yeah i noticed it in casino royale as well were it is grainy in some points especially during the black and whiute scenes, but i cnt imagine why they would purposly make it that way? it ruins the movie? very strange

"300" was digitally captured, the grain was added later to make it look like traditional film.

You've got a groundloop problem my friend. In a nutshell this happens when there are two or more 3-pronged appliances plugged into one surge bar/receptacle. Try different receptacles if you can/ or invest in a 3-prong to 2 prong adapter. They will run you about $3 at your local hardware.

300 IS SUPPOSED TO LOOK GRAINY!!!

for the guys that have ACERS and other CHEAPO brand hdtvs, its your TV sorry. try to do some calibration and it may help a little bit, but the poor picture quality has to do with the B&C ratios and color saturation.
