Is the latest title in the racing series good or bad ? I'm not even worried about the sales and the random relay on putting it back on for november when it was already dated for that month but delayed (most likely for no reason) but I have been reading these threads about the game getting kicked in the back so bad so I just decided to say screw it and make a exact thread of my own for this question...

Is it worth the 6 years you've waiting ?

What are the Pros and Cons ?

I still have yet to try it, but from what iv'e seen it does look awesome, selling 2 million copies in 48hrs helps that too lol

A couple of the tracks iv'e seen look a little lame, just plain and green but other effects like the driving at night look uber awesome

Is it a good or a bad game? Well, it's certainly not a bad game. It delivers what you'd expect from a GT title. And I mean exactly what you'd expect. There are no surprises here so it's not going to be better or worse than any of it's predecessors (relative to the time that it's released, of course). Now is it worth the 6 year wait? Absolutely not. No game should take that amount of time to develop to begin with. And if it does take that long, then don't announce it so early and get everyone excited for something that's not coming for a good while. The other thing is that if something takes this long to make, it better be absolutely perfect. And absolutely perfect GT5 is not. The actual driving is pretty great. The physics system and the realism the game delivers is unparalled by any other game. It really is a true driving simulator. The premium cars are jaw droppingly detailed. There can be no complaints with those because they are pretty fantastic. The tracks, while they're not extremely varied, are beautifully detailed and everything is pretty gorgeous. The game gives you what you want, basically. Nothing new, but nothing underwhelming either. The problem is this game doesn't really progress the way you wanted it to. Customizations are pretty basic and other driving games offer more in this area. Tracks are pretty repetitive and they get boring after awhile. The fact that there are 200 premium cars to 800 standard cars isn't new information. But the standard cars being upscaled PS2 models is a huge disappointment. They aren't anywhere near as detailed as the premium cars and feel like a waste. That wouldn't be annoying if they didn't take 6 years to make this game. I think it's ridiculous that only 20% of the cars are detailed to the extent that you'd expect and everything else is a letdown.

It's an amazing game.

Yes it's worth the it not 6 years btw 5 years, and i will not explain why it took 5 years.

First : the game looks great in some areas it looks bad but you won't focus since you'll be driving unless you're stopping to see the 2d trees and the jaggies.

Second: as i said the graphics are inconsistant , meaning it look beautiful in some places while others looks bad, the shadows are jagged if you go with 1080p with 2XAA, but if you go with 720p with 4XAA you'll see less jaggies and less tearing( which was fixed by the patch) so no problems get the patch and play on whatever resolution you want, and download the patch that fixes the loading problems and install the full game 8GB btw.

third: the physics are just great what else can i say :P

fourth: the damage on the cars will only be fully unlocked when you're level is 40, but while you're leveling you'll see some damage, and when you're car gets damage you can repair it.

5: the challanges are challanging sometimes from what i heard.

6: there are only 200 premium cars the ones which gets full damage when unlocked, and there are 800 standards those are fom GT4, so that makes it 1000 cars :P, also you can buy cars, custom soundtracks, like IGN it's the best sim on consles, also you can Customize you're car but not like forza, the tracks looks good.

7: the premium cars are top notch 10/10, superb lighting and details. If this is not enough go to GT5 hype thread and ask for some advices. if this is you're first sim try it if you don't like it i suggest you go for NFS HP or wait for TDU2.

Overall it's worth it.

You pretty much summed up my thoughts about the game. The one thing that annoys me badly is the terrible jaggies on shadows. How can they spend 6 years making the game and not have the shadows look somewhat better.

It's pretty fun. I haven't been waiting for it for 6 years though. I actually didn't even care about it until a month or two ago. The only bad part I've come across so far is it takes a while to level up and get good cars. Still, it's a fun game and I'd suggest checking it out.

GT5 is actually the best racing game I ever play

it really differentiates the feels of driving FF, FR, MR, RR cars

the initial installation is long, and even after it, still tooks time to load, BUT, it gets FASTER, the tracks you've entered and played, it loads faster next time

bottom line: this is the most addictive GT game ever

It's a hi-def remake of Gran Turismo 4, with less tracks and 80% of the cars aren't up to the "premium" standard. If you've never played a GT game before it's great. If you've played GT4, it's just the same thing over again, just smaller and prettier.

Good and bad. The driving mechanics themselves are better than in GT5P and very comparable to Forza 3. The upgrading and tuning options are a bit disappointing, however, and while you can at least repaint your cars now you're limited to using a silly paint chip system Polyphony has implemented, where you earn paint chips for buying certain colour cars and can then use those one-use chips to repaint other ones. The whole standard versus premium thing also has an impact on the game's aesthetic, and especially the cockpit view (or lack of) if you enjoy driving that way. Game's filtering is pretty bad too, with shadows, rain, dirt, snow, etc. Not worth the six years we've waited. It's basically GT4 with shinier graphics and 200 better looking cars. The career mode is the same, the upgrade system is the same, the used car dealer is the same, and the special events are largely the same (Nascar and karting are nice touches but not that substantial given the rest of the game's focus). I mean, I'm glad I bought it, and I'll probably play a fair bit of the game, but it's hard not to be disappointed given what other series (Forza, Race Pro/On, etc) have done in the same time frame. In many ways the majority of the game feels rooted in the past, kind of like when you play a recent JRPG and enjoy it despite the myriad of ancient design decisions.

It's a good game, solid driving and is fun to play.

Not worth waiting 6 years for - but then again I haven't been eagerly waiting for it for 6 years. I've been interested in other games as I already knew what to expect from a GT game.

Pros: Solid driving, good physics, good variety of tracks, plenty of cars to choose from, most cars look quite pretty, lengthy GT career mode, some interesting extras such as Go-Karts (although it isn't a great deal of fun). Overall good options for tuning (negatives are listed under Cons) that let you perfect how your car handles.

Cons: Ugly (and I mean reallyugly) spray from rain - makes the edges of the cars look blocky and jagged. Some tracks look very dull and pretty much every track has cardboard trees. Some dodgy choices for Premium Cars, such as the Suzuki Cappuccino being Premium, but famous classic cars like the E-type Jaguar and some old American Muscle cars being Standard. Some strange tuning options; not being able to upgrade brakes (I would hope/expect this gets patched in soon) and not being able to add turbos/superchargers to cars that should be able to have them. Not as challenging/in-depth as previous GTs - for example the License tests are no longer required to progress through to higher tier races, which removes their importance and enables players to just ignore them entirely.

Overall I'd recommend it, but the game lacks the polish of other racers like Dirt 2.

I was too, but judging from the beta, it's going to be a disappointment. As far as GT5 goes, I think the poll results speak for themselves, it's great.

1. It's just an OK racing game, when I compare it to my "fun experience" with Forza, Forza wins. *Note MY EXPERIENCE 2. I didn't wait for the game the game waited for me to pick it up. 3.Pros - a lot of cars, rare exotic cars, best looking racing game on a console. Cons - Long load times, the game is almost unplayable without the 8GB install. Also slow menus.

That's all I've been playing and wanting to play since its release. And when that happens that means the game is good. My only con is that the standard cars don't thave interior view. Other than that it's a solid game imo.

I agree with most of fightingfans points, except i wouldn't give this game an "OK" rating. i think it's poor. Fun factor? Forza wins hands down. this game has tons of cars, TONS, but you can't make these cars YOURS. forza made it so the car you bought was made personal to you by what you can do to the paint/body kits. awesome touches in gameplay that you could waste hours on without even bothering to race. the games lack of car damage (not all cars i mean) is a major disappointment, especially when you look at other racers. the graphics for GT5 are awesome, the physics are awesome, but the game feels bland. over time, i began to grow tired of forza because of the problems i saw with it, but if i think back on it, i would play forza over gt 5 anyday. in fact, i sold my copy of gt 5 to blockbuster today because it wasn't doing it for me. maybe in another 5 years, GT 6 will do what forza 3 did for me when it came out. i'm not a forza/xbox fanboy, i've played GT since PS1, and i still think GT1 was the best racing game ever made, it just had what no other game had. this took that formula and dumbed it down in terms of modifications, etc. i'm one of the few that voted "bad."

It is amazing, not the dramatic step forward I had expected but still the best racer I have played. The side notes explaining the significance of each model is a very nice addition that really makes browsing cars all that much more educational and satisfying.

GT5 is a great game, but it isn't for everyone as you can see by some scores it's getting. An 8.0 game it is not.

you wouldn't recommend cod to a bf fan or pes to a fifa fan, those games, although in the same general genre, have quite different mechanics and degree of simulation... if one wants a racing sim, then an arcade game is not the best place to look for it... :)

teck157713, i am not arguing that nfs: hot pursuit is a bad game, i have only played the demo and i do love the work of criterion being a fan of the burnout series, i just feel that gt5 and nfs are both very good examples of their sub-genres, one being an arcade racer, the other being a close to reality physics simulation (racer)... :)

I know they are different games, but I want to say that Hot Pursuit is a more guaranteed game compared to Gran Turismo 5. My bad if I didn't explain it properly..

In many ways the majority of the game feels rooted in the past, kind of like when you play a recent JRPG and enjoy it despite the myriad of ancient design decisions.

Would you say that someone who has never played a GT game before be happy with this game? To me it seems like the people who are disappointed are people who played the other games.

Probably, but only if they haven't really touched another racing sim in the past few years (be it on 360 or PC or whatever).

Gran Turismo still has that Pokemon 'gotta collect them all' sort of feel with regards to the cars, so if you're into that the game has more to offer too, as all thestandards were in GT4 and GTPSP. I've already collected them, so getting to win and purchase the same cars all over again is less compelling than it was last time I did it.

The interface may also put off more casual players or those new to the series, though. No effort was made to streamline anything, so you have several menus and loads to get to the pre-race screens to check what kind of cars you're allowed to enter into a particular event, then another load screen or two to get back to the main menu and another two for the dealership and then a wait while they animate your car being delivered, and another load to get back to the race menus and...whoops, your car has the wrong tires for the event, so you have to back out again and wait for the tuning pages to load, then buy your tires, load back to the main menu, load into the race screen, and then half a minute or more for the actual race to load.

You'll spend as much time (or more) in menus than you will racing. It's just that sort of thing that's kind of baffling.

It's a hi-def remake of Gran Turismo 4, with less tracks and 80% of the cars aren't up to the "premium" standard. If you've never played a GT game before it's great. If you've played GT4, it's just the same thing over again, just smaller and prettier.

I played GT4...I have to respectfully disagree with this opinion...

Gran Turismo 5 brings a lot more than GT4 could possibly bring...its more in-depth, the physics are more realistic, the car sounds sound great, the go-karting is really fun, Nascar also is really fun, the weather effects are entered in nicely.

It surpasses GT4 in every phase of the game actually...only thing that I miss is the main screen map lol.

I haven't played any racing game in a while besides a race of two for Forza and watching my friends play. I'm usually able to look over the load screens and menu most times so it seems like I would enjoy it. Thanks for your input.

I'm a huge racing fan and I honestly think that if you haven't played GT4, then get this game. If you have played it, then don't because its almost the same game. I honestly don't think you're a racing fan and would think that you should buy something else.
