Personally, I found that it displayed well on an SDTV, but my major issue with gaming on an SDTV was the text size...I had to literally more really close to the screen to read a lot of things that were in-game text....but I fixed this by purchasing a component cable....It doesn't create a whole world of improvement, but it is noticeable and much better...I don't have to press my face to the screen anymore in order to read stuff lol....so if your SDTV supports component cables I strongly suggest you invest in some...
but if you want a better gaming experience without and HDTV, then I recommend you carry out some research on Flat Screen PC monitors that contain HDMI/DVI and HDCP ...as well as support 1:1 aspect ratio.
Not as expensive (or effective) as an HDTV, but it's the next best thing I guess.
I was having issues when I played MLB 09 on my standard, that I didn't have when I played MLB 08.
I don't know if it was the firm ware upgrade but the players and background were extremely blurry, which
made me end up getting a 32" Samsung HDTV about two months later.
I only have 2 games so far (MGS4 and Oblivion) and play on SDTV. I have no problem reading text. I turned on the subtitles in MGS4 and I can clearly read it about 3 meters away.
Graphic wise...both game already "wowed" me. Hehe! I'm not really into graphics so I'm ok with it. I still play PS2 from time to time and have no problems dealing with the graphics.

Yeah the subtitles are pretty good in MGS4, but have you tried to read the items you're picking up?It looks like you're reading tiny binary codes.

Thats because both games were made with 480p also in mind. Many games were made like this, Resistance for example also has clear text.
I found those pics while searching:

Question, I have a hdtv yet playin GTA4 looks so blurry, do i need to buy component cables to get the hd look?icytony
ya
your sdtv just sucked major donkey ***. Fifa 08 looks amazing on my SDAndrovinus
what type of camera do you use? I have to use sideline to see my players well but that reduces the whole field perspective. It is manageable on broadcast but compare the broadcast on 08 with that on 07 or 06 on an SDTV and you will see what i am talking about. Then take you 08 and put it on an HDTV and you'll never want to go back.

You have to get HDMI cables. Although component cables are fine too. An HDMI cable is better than component cables

I found it to be amazing graphically speaking, sometimes getting as good as a CG movie. But I have a flat screen SD TV so that may make a difference.
Also, it seems that the guy who uploaded the pics didnt knew about the Screen option in Warhawk.

I think that the SDTV wasn't hooked up properly because bits of the game were offscreen. When I used my PS3 on an SD TV, I played Folklore, The biggest differences were that I couldn't read the text and there was a little less detail, now I use a 720p HDTV which makes the text easier to read and details like textures are clearer. Currently I use my SDTV to play Xbox360 and everything looks fine, just crisper on the HDTV when I get the chance to hook it up there.
BTW I removed the pics from your post to conserve space.

Yes you can buy component cables with it. Red, blue and green are your video cables. It will also come with red and white cables . The latter are your audio. On an SDTV component is slightly better than analog.

so... is component...hdmi?...or just standard?polishkid99
HDTVs have connections for HDMI cables. HDMI cables will give you the best picture and sound (if we are comparing to component and analog). HDTVs also have connections for component cables and will give you a decent picture.
Some SDTVs allow component connections but do not allow HDMI connections.
My issue with FIFA is that somehow on SDTVs the aspect ratio is affected. Even on the start up screen of FIFA 08 you can see the ball near Ronaldinhos boots and the boots are then cut off on an SDTV, but on an HDTV you see the ball and his whole boot and even more space. As far as I know component cables do not adjust for aspect ratio issues they just produce better pictures.
