i think that their a little biased
but then again people forget that they have to look at every aspect of the game like for those new to the series like final fantasy tactics may think that gamspot gave it a bad review but most of those have played the old one. For those whining about the slowdown on spells and other stuff get used to because developers are going to take advantage of the slim
I have mixed feelings about this. On one side, I don't think gamespot scores games harshly, instead I think other sites score games too liberally. A 9+ score on gamespot is more special than a 9+ score from anywhere else. Also, I think people just like to see their favorite games get high score because they personally like the game, or because they want the game to be great. But what people seem to ignore is that an 8 score means the game is great.
As for Final Fantasy Tactics I think a 8.0 for a remake is reasonable. What I don't like is that the 8.0 score only applies to people who have played the game before. If you haven't played the game before, then I bet it deserves more of a 9.0 score because it really is an incredible game. Everyone will only see the 8.0 score so because of that, if they aren't familiar with how great of a game FFT is, then they will probably miss out on it. But really, this isn't something that you can help because the game is a remake so its justifiable to lower its score because of that.
Also, GS is a bit biased with portables in general, meaning the psp and the nds. They are usually very late with reviews which implies handheld gamers should go to the back of the bus, and as a handheld only gamer I object!(Does Phoenix Wright pose)
Anyways, GS has been accused of being biased against nintendo, microsoft, and sony. I don't think they are biased against them, its just that they aren't as liberal with their scores.

especially when you take into account the fact that the remake had the exact same problems that were present in the original game.
Let me see :
Dead Head Fred : 6.5
MHF2 : 5
FFT : WOTL : 8
Brave Story : 6.5
Yeap , they are pretty cruel to PSP games ...
PS : I will probably get banned for saying this ...
if u read correctly, an 8.6 is GREAT. 9-9.5 are SUBERB meaning that the game blew you away. was liberty city stories good enough to be superb? im surprised that LCS got an 8.6, i was expecting more along 7.5-8. even some games in the 6s are worth getting after the price drops. i have never rated a game a 10 cause i havent played a game that was PERFECT. quiksilver9774
Completely unrelated and this is totally based on your preference in games, but play Chrono Cross and Vagrant Story, only two games I have ever considered "perfect"

i would assume that's not the case if other people agree with you.....myself included. especially since DHF, MHF2, and Brave Story aren't ports of other games.
what really got on my nerves was the 6.5 they gave brave story. it's probably one of the better RPG's that has surfaced for the PSP and yet they felt a 6.5 was good enough....then again it all comes down to personal opinion.
it is not because you expect a game to have agood ratingthat it will have one with GS or IGN or any other. more than the score, you should read the whole review ! the score is only here to give us a quick idea if the reviewer liked the game or not. the review itself (especially the "the good / the bad" summary) will help you to have an idea of the game itself.
i think you people are too focused on the score
--- edit ----
Especially when you think that the score might change with time. will Halo 3 still deserve a 9.5 when Halo 4 is out ? not sure :o
Yes. They are kind of hard on them. Im currently playing Jeanne D´Arc. And I would never give it less than 8.8-9
The cutscenes are nothing but AWESOME. The story is.. well its history you know? with a little extra. The battles are awesome. There is not as much customization as final fantasy tactics (jobs, etc) but the gameplay is GREAT.

Jeanne D'arc : 8.0 Great

Forget the way they rate PSP games, I'm getting pretty fed up with the way they rate ANY game. It seems all GS does anymore is try to focus on the negatives of any game that doesn't receive a fair amount of media coverage. Trust me on this: it is very rare for a game that is not hyped to death to get a 9.0 or higher. My advice: don't listen to so-called video game reviewers. They are usually only looking for things that are completely new or ground-breaking or totally awesome-- in their opinion. If you're not sure about a game, pay a couple of bucks to rent it, and if you like it, buy it. Don't let a "professional" game critic let you miss out on a good game. They can't even agree on what makes a game good most of the time.
great point everybody has different taste the best way to know if you're going to like a game is to play it for yourself.Forget the way they rate PSP games, I'm getting pretty fed up with the way they rate ANY game. as for gamespot when it comes to psp I really think they just dont like the system which may account for the low scores and late reviews ..... there are tons of places to get PSP info other than gamespot.
Everybody has there right to their opinion, just take gamespot's (or any site / mag) reviews with a grain of salt. And if a game got your attention rent it you may fine the game is worth spending your cash to buy it.
