GT5- prologue has to be installed is this common?

Hi,

Today I went to play GT5 prologue and it came up saying it has to be installed on the hdd. this took like 30mins or so to do.

Do a lot of games have to be installed like this?

the ps3 is only 2 days old and I have only played resistance - fall of man (which didn't need installing) and then pain (free download) which did need installing.

It may also be installing updates, but it does a 5gb mandatory install (that has nothing to do with updates) before you're able to start the game. It's the same as MGS4.

ehh well GTP is like a test for the real game...so there always tryin to change and improve thigs...Resistance wont need updates because its old...How did you get pain free?Unknown_Hero3

Resistance does lol. I bought Resistance waaaaay back and they decided to patch rumble into it. The only problem is Resistance updates don't come up automatically, you have to go online through multiplayer first to get the update.

As for GT5 - Prologue, it was a long ass intallation. Even after that it had to update which made me mad but the game is abosolutely stunning. Amazing graphics, amazing physics, the sounds, the sights.

I hate them since I have a 60gb. But I have a seperate external hard-drive for media so hopefully I'll be fine for a while.

I am not talking about updates with GTP, I am talking about the initial install before you can even play the game.

I got pain for free from Sony. I got the ps3 with the Bravia TV bonus deal and they send you a $25 video ezy voucher book and a code to dl Pain for free if you join psn.

I think I will chuck a nice and large hdd in it. Just need to find out how to transfer the data from the original hdd to the new 1. but then again since the ps3 is so new, I only have a game save for resistance and 1 from gtp and the pain dl, which is the thing I want to backup.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, Warhawk, and later SOCOM are all PSN games. PSN games are played off the harddrive, even if you buy the disc version, the whole game has to be installed to the harddrive. The only purpose the disc plays is to verify you own the game.SageJMP
