I'm having a problem that has only arisen lately. The problem is that the auto aim will lock, I will aim, and when I push the fire button the crosshairs slides off the target or sometimes the target will just move and the crosshairs come off and won't re-lock. This happens even when the target is close or well within range. It's really frustrating. I have no idea what could be causing this and I've competely erased all my GTA 4 data thinking it was corrupted. The auto aim function worls perfectly in single player so I'm not sure what the difference could be that could cause the problem between the single player and online modes.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I occasionally have that issue, but I have more of a problem with the fact that there are times where I can kneel down and empty an entire clip into someone and they don't die, but then they turn around and cap me with two shots. Frustrating.

im willing to bet that ou are one of those players who stand strait up and just hold the fire button. this is why you arnt killing other people as fast as they are killing you. its all about accuracy and many things affect it. you ur in a gun fight you should always be crouching as this increases ur acc. and instead holding the fire button down try tapping it in small rationed burst because just holding down fire will greatly reduce accuracy. you can tell this by the size of the reticle of ur opponent. o one more thing if you cant see the other guys health you basically cannot shot them unless of course ur using a sniper or rpg. and diff weapons appear to have diff range of fire like i noticed you can stand farther away from a persona dn still shoot them with an automatic rifle then the standard pistil for instance. also even tho its on auto-aim you can still use the right anolog to direct exactly where to hit. so you should always aim for head shots. its harder to sim but you will get use to it and these are the shots that kill people in two hits i tested this myself rather then about 5 or 6 body shots or whatevr the count was i tested this a long time ago. oh and when ur aiming for the head dont just push the anolog all the way up cause you will just fire shots over top of their head. just practice till you get use to the spot for how much to aim it up. always always check ur rador dont let a person sneak up on you while ur trying to fight someone else. when i use to play i always ppay close attention to my rador. being in a position where ur between two people is always bad. oh and i also like to tap the aim button as i move close to an enemy because just looking in first person view and moving close doesnt always give you an auto aim you have to search them out and even if yu know there exact locationg the game doesnt always auto-aim. really its hard to explain its like when your playing basketball you got to have a feel for what distance you should be able to auto a target with certain weapons. after awhile this stuff becomes second nature and you will find urself doing them with out even realizing it.. haha one more thing lol when ur not in a battle and have time to breath press left and then right or vice versa to. so you will have a full clip. nothng is worse when you are in a gun battle in open field and you have to reload ur gun. before you even get a chance to reload you will most likely be dead and vice versa u notice your opponent is reloading his gun take advantage and light him up before he is done but remember tap the fire button dont hold it i cant stress that enough. if you utilize what i have just told you i ensure you that you will be one of those people making the others frustrated and not the other way around. i stopped playing the game awhile ago when i was around level 6 i think because as i noticed more about the game it became too easy to win. even when playing agaisnt people who were level 10s. i didnt care that much to play the game that much to raise my level that high i said if i can beat that level im better then that level player. i was always in the top three in deathmacth mode. and could usually be fairly outnumbered in team deathmatch and come out with a win. i havent played the game ina few months and i def wont be playing anytime soon ince my college classes start next week but i hope what i said helps you out.

I appreciate that everyone has taken the time to try and answer my question. I'm a level 8 on the game so I'm aware of tapping means less revoils means quicker headshots. I pride myself on two taps or less which is why this so dang aggrivating. I play in a lot of high ranking games so if your not just about perfect you're dead. They've actually started asking to kick me because my kill count is down.

I thought maybe it might be my connection. Where there's was faster and I was dead but my console hadn't caught up. But I can re-aim manually and still make the kills. Plus I have a broadband connection. 10 megs I believe.
