It will be a big leap from S.A. but not in landmass, GTAIV is actually smaller than it's predecessor but has a lot more attention to detail although people will miss the planes. Not a big leap for PS3 hardware though, like the Xbox last gen (which was held back technically by PS2 versions) the PS3 will be forever held back by the 360's less powerful hardware in multiplats.

Yes, GTA:IV will be a huge leap over the whole GTA trilogy on PS2, lert alone San Andreas. last year, after the first trailer, Dan Houser said in an interview that the jump GTA:IV will make will be as big as when we went from Gta 2 to GTA 3.

Rockstar are going for a big step up from GTA:SA yes.

The story will be MUCH more involving

Attention to detail is MUCH higher

The gameplay improvements seen like it will be better all round compared to previous GTA's

no it doesnt look like much of a leap forward. but the fact that the ps3 has more power im sure the explosions and fights will be much more intreaguing with little to no slow downs.

A big leap for the GTA series would be to vastly improve the targeting system (make it like Uncharted and I'll be a happy camper).

and you are an idiot. Hmm, what's going to be better? a PS2 version of GTA or a PS3 version of GTA? maybe I should just run out and grab a copy of Grand Theft Auto I for the PS1. Think before you type Reisling it would help.....

GTA 1 and 2 were on the pc and the pc alone, here's a link where you can get them for free:
(to the mods, ROCKSTAR offers GTA 1 and 2 for free on their website, this is their OFFICIAL website)

http://www.rockstargames.com/clas*cs (sorry, can't link, GS censors clas*ics...)

(You gotta be kidding me, clas*ics is censored in the link, so, I can't link it.)

In 1999, Rockstar Games and Rockstar North (then known as DMA Design) furthered the groundbreaking gameplay concepts established just two years prior in the original Grand Theft Auto - with the release of GTA2. GTA2 expanded on the top-down, open-ended crime world gameplay formula with a host of new features including the advent of multiple rival gangs – seven, to be exact, including the Yakuza, Scientists, Looneys, Rednecks, Zaibatsu, the Russian Mob and Hare Krishnas. Earn your respect with each gang. Reap the benefits with all manner of shady work-for-hire gigs contracted your way. And climb your way to the top of the criminal pile.

Now, longtime Grand Theft Auto fans can revisit this ****c entry in the series - and new jacks who missed out on this early franchise title can further discover Grand Theft Auto's roots - absolutely free. GTA2 has been completely optimized for play on modern PCs and is available gratis for all registrants to the Rockstar Games mailing list (rest assured your information will not be shared with any third parties, you will only receive information from Rockstar). Simply fill out the form below and check your email for a direct link to the file (353 MB .zip file, includes install .exe, readme .txt file, and a .pdf of the original PC game manual).

better visuals and other minor improvments doesn't make a big leap IMO as long as the core gameplay stays almost the same.

It'll provide a next gen experience, but it will be what we've come to know and love about GTA...so yes and no....
