lol ign has said you are force sadly your system cant just handla the disc sad k2theswissHaha is this meant to be some kind of fanboy diss? If it is I guess you missed this version of the review you pretend to quote... For those wanting to know which version looks better, the edge goes to the PS3. The textures and framerate are comparable, but the PS3 has far less pop-in. The 360 has richer colors, but the PS3 has better anti-aliasing making it look a little cleaner. Because GTA IV can preload onto the PS3 hard drive, the in-game loads are faster. Don't worry Xbox owners, the load times are rarely more than 30 seconds and don't occur very often.
lol ign has said you are force sadly your system cant just handla the disc sad k2theswissAt least I now know what you are smoking....
i need to know can you install it without connecting to the interneteggfork
it installs from the disc, no need to be online at all.
I've never understood this "I don't want installs" mentality. I'd swap 10 minutes of my life and some hard drive space for games to load faster or buffer to the HDD in the end. I wish all games allowed me to do this.CellAnimation
If in all PS3 games it resulted in loading faster, I'd be ok with it. But in many instances, installs are simply being used as a development crutch by these companies, and offer no tangible benefit to the overall performance of the game, aside from a few rare instances, such as Oblivion. People are not against installs as a whole, so much as being against bloated wasteful installs. Seems to me though, that the GTA4 install did in fact have a good benefit to performance, so I'm fine with giving it a few GB.
i dont mind having to install and wait a few minutes extra... afterall we're talking about GTAIV, so am sure its gonna be worth it..

So let me explain it for you. The main problem is that the pre-install is mandatory - if it was optional you wouldn't hear any complaints. It can be optional since the other system doesn't have any pre-install due to some lacking a harddrive.
So a lot of people are going to have 40gb available - that means about 10 games that could be pre-installed max ASSUMING nobody starts going 8gb pre-install (and what hinders them)... So when you get your 11th game you have to delete another one - then somebody comes over to your house and wants to play the one you deleted. Well there goes 10 mins again, then you want to play the one you just had to delete again - hey 10 mins again...
So make the damn thing optional - when it becomes an old game you can remove the preinstall file and if you want to play it again you suffer a bit longer load times.....
What right does the game developers have to fill up the harddrive just because it is there.
Finally it is also a laziness - a lot could be loaded as you play along instead, but they prefer the pre-install
One final note - I agree don't care about the five minutes, but on the other hand if you don't care about that then why does the few 30 secs load times during the game matter........... double-standard???
Time is not the issue - eating up my harddrive space forcing me to buy a bigger harddrive - that is an issue. So far I have boycotted all pre-load games... This will be a tough one not to get. Will probably just buy it used to not send my money to them - compromise

a 30 second delay during game is a bit different from installing. In the 5 min you can walk about and get a drink, use the restroom, go to computer, write a message saying how you hate preinstall, or read a few page of the book that you'd been skipping on. On the other hand, those 10 sec during each loading requires you to sit there ant fumble your thumbs.. I would hardly say that double standard. About your previous post, well, I can see both sides of the argument and I personally prefer that we get an option to install if we wish to. But installation will be a thing of future, even now developers are complaining about lack of HD space on Wii, so if you want to boycott games that requires preinstall, well, I don't think you will get to play any games a few more years down the road.
I guess you can still play PS2 though :D

The hard-drive is needed for pre-loading during the game to cut down wait times during the game. That is one of the main thing developers are complaining about. That one game gets to use up over 10% of the harddrive won't be right in my mind now or ever... I think you will see this become an issue later down the road and Sony pushing for optional installs as well.
Trying to stay very clear - not against pre-installs ONLY mandatory ones. First time I play through a game it would be pre-installed, then I would delete and the second time around I would let it load as the game goes one...
Simple fact is, R* would have also put a required install on the 360 version, but due to certain a SKU not having pre-installed hdd's, they made it optional. Just like hd-dvd. it was there, it could have been used for games, but anyone who released a game on the format would risk alientating a part of the user base. Azurathe
Actually, this is only partly true. the 360 version does not have any sort of HDD install (Source: http://kotaku.com/384503/everything-you-wanted-to-know-about-gta-iv-so-stop-asking ).
"Does the Xbox 360 have a hard drive installation?
No. There is no required installation, nor is there an optional one."

There's something else worth considering as well. Since PS3's BR drive is a CLV drive, accessing different area of the disc means constant speed up and down of the BR drive. Because of this reason, random reading of the disc is actually very demanding of the hardware. While I personally would prefer if the game give you the option of installation or not, I strongly think installing the game is much better off for your PS3.
Also, because of the nature of CLV, loading games would perform very poorly compare to a simlarily matched CAV drive. Installation of the game may not get much improvement over the loading speed for 360, but it may be another story for the same game on PS3 without good optimization (like Oblivion's game duplication trick). Since we do not have much games that have optional install ATM, the issue isn't that clear, maybe when Valkyria Chronicles gets released here we would have more insight into this issue. Either way though, while I'd prefer the install being optional, I'd rather install the game since HD's a lot easier to be replaced than the built-in BR drive.

From what I heard, there is an install. Not sure about it being optional. The install will allow loading times to be drastically reduced.
I have never ever had any problems or issues of installing. For one I come a long way from PC gaming and every single game I bought, had a install process.
I don't see any issues with it. Five to 10 minutes for improvement in speed, load times or any other reasons not understandable by myself are all worth in my opinion simple because they improve your game, as marginal as it might seem.
You can always delete a game but your save files always stay if you chose to do so. Save files are barely 2-3MB per game (One unit progression).
In my case I played Devil May Cry 4 two times and after I was done I un-installed it freeing almost 5GB of data. However few days ago I wanted to play again and all I had to do is install again. Since I had my save file I was back to track.
I don't see it as a big problem at all. You have to understand that new generation of system are different then what we had 10 year ago, as well as requirement for the games and developers.
"The other system" argument is foolish, simply because it needs not be compared to it. PlayStation 3 is PlayStation 3 - it works and functions and program's its games different in its own way.
The use of Hard-Drive installation will come into play in next year or so even more. There is a reason why you can buy 200+ GB laptop Hard-Drive for 80$. Hard-Drive space is meaningless when you look at the big picture.
Rant... then more rant...svenskamerikanLOL, you can pick up a 160 GB HDD for around USD$100. That's the price of 2 games... you need more storage buy a bigger hard drive. Personally like I said I want to be able to install all of my games. As for your comment about installs versus game loads... WTF! The reason I want game installs is because I hate loading... so no it's not a double standard. I've got a 160 GB HDD in my PS3 when that isn't big enough anymore I'll go buy another drive.

How would optional pre-loading hurt you? Not talking about getting rid of pre-loading, but making it optional....

Ummmm .. learn to delete .. why keep 11 games of install on anyways? Incredibly pointless ..
