I was playing GTA 4 shooting people in the face when randomly my PS3's fan gets REALLY LOUD. Any help?

This happens every time when I play more than an hour or so.

yea, clean ur ps3's vents, whenever i played on my ps3 for a week its always and i dont care if ppl say BS, but its always quiet, i barely hear it. but after a week of use, it will eventually start gettin abit loud. so wat i do like the manual says, i vacuum my vents use the cloth that came with my lcd tv to wipe my ps3, dust it off and im good for another week or 2 before it gets loud again, plus i have a husky who sheds more than it snowed here this winter lol, so yea try cleaning ur ps3 and use a low powered vacuum to clean the vents if that didnt help then i dont know.

hope this helps.

P.S by the way does it have enough room to breath?

Is it just with GTA4? If it is getting loud after an hour of ANY gameplay, then it is probably some kind of heating/cooling issue. If it is only happening with GTA4, then I am not too sure why it would be happening. Has it ever shut itself off from overheating?

A "small cubby" might not cut it, man. You need space for that side fan to blow the heat out.

cool, so just give it space, dust it here and there, and vacuum the vents once a week or once every 2 weeks and ull see a difference. i have a 60GB since launch and its been purring quietly lol ever since. i been doing wat i recommended u for almost 3years and if that doesnt help then try to leave it off for a day or so before u come back to it(thats after u clean it that is) and good luck bro

I am. It only happens in GTA 4 though.

For example, I'll be capping people with the shotgun in the hospital, and it'll randomly start lagging, my PS3 fan will get loud as hell, and it won't stop until I turn off my PS3 and restart it. It doesn't happen with ANY other game. Help please!

The fan in my 60gb gets noisy pretty often, not just playing GTA4 but Killzone 2 & some of my PS2 games from what I remember. I don't think anything of it really, I never play for much more than an hour at a time, so after that I take a break, switch it back on & it's all quiet again. Hell even when it's noisy it's still not as loud as my old PS2.

i wouldn't be surprised if gta4 isn't just more demanding on your system than your other games, causing it's processors to work harder, thus creating more heat. that, coupled with the small cubby space, would cause it to heat up on you like that. despite the fan in your unit, it still requires a certain amount of convection to allow it to breathe properly.

my ps3 has only done this to me a couple times, and that's when my daughter bumps the ps button on the controller when the cabinet is shut, and i'm at work. when i get home, it's starting to get warm inside the cabinet, and the ps3 fan is going nuts. no problems if the door is open for me though.

My PS3 fan will get loud after about an hour of gameplay, but by then I'm ready to stop playing so it's never an issue. If you clean it like another poster said it should help, but given that it only happens with GTA4 I don't know. I wouldn't think much of it...I just guess GTA4 is a demanding game.

Ever since I set my PS3 vertical it's become less noisy. Not that it was all that noisy before but I think the vertical allows the heat to move straight out the vents as opposed to having the fan push it out.

Yes sony built a great machine... i thinks its ok to play while its loud like that... but dont push it.. i usually take breaks to let my ps3 cool down.. usually play 2 -4 hours then take a break
