GTA IV limited to Liberty City. Are you disappointed?

Well, i am now but i could change my mind once i start playing the game, you never know. Some things may make up for the loss of others.

A lot of details have been provided in Game Informer. It seems the main character is called Niko Bellic and he's from eastern Europe. The action will be taking place in Liberty City only and apparently it won't be possible to pilote airplanes...

They have never let me down and i hope they never will. Having a map a lot smaller than SanAndreas and not being able to fly airplanes are important aspects of the game that might make me not enjoy this game as much as i whish.

I'm affraid that might be the problem, Rockstar even used the 360 version to showcase the game to Game Informer.

I loved that the most about san andreas, i liked vice city for the atmosphere and gta 3 i did not enjoy that much because i don't like liberty city

I'm going to save this for posterity and repost it when GTA drops to see if you feel the same way.

First off, there was a THIRTY SECOND TEASER, that's all that's been released and that's what you are basing all your information on. Please. You have no idea if it will be set in Liberty City at all, let alone "restricted" to LC. It's way, way too early to speculate and make some "THIS GAME ALREADY SUCKS" type of thread 6 months before the game is released.

You've been able to pilot airplanes for several games now, I don't see any possibility that they will just take a whole feature like that out. 6 months is a long time, Game Informer has a habit of getting the "scoop" with all this information that ends up being completely untrue or just changing by the time the game is released. Last Game Informer I read talked about Assassin's Creed being a PS3 exclusive, Unreal Tournament and Killzone 2 being launch titles etc.

Grain of salt. GTA4 will be everything we expected and more. As usual. RockStar is one of the best.

i think i've said this on another topic, but im quite happy to see a san-andreas or smaller sized GTA game as long as it has varying environments and thus more realism...putting effort into making one very realistic city will probably be so good people will wonder why they ever needed a big open environment

just one question, do you think liberty city is getting a little boring, hope it don't feel like a been there done that type of thing. personally though i know what rockstar are like so I'm expecting a top quality title, that excels both Saints row and crackdownscott_nffc

I actually felt San Andreas was too big. I got so bored having to drive or fly from city to city. Crackdown does it great where you can just hop from safe point to safe point if you like. I think the size of Vice City was ideal in my eyes....ajefferism

I feel the same way.  I enjoyed San Andreas, but I believe it was to big for its own good.  Having all that countryside and highway sounded great, but to me it just seemed like a waste of space.  And I also believe that Vice City was the ideal size.  I like the fact that GTA IV just takes place in Liberty City.  I like the fact that the city will be smaller than SA, so I can actually appreciate the surroundings, and the NPC chatter, instead of driving from city to city.   

As for not having planes, I am not really bothered.  It was always fun to fly around, but I can live without it.

Like someone posted, the magazine was scanned and i think it was Sam Houser himself (not sure because i didn't read all scans but i saw his name there) that said the game would be restricted to LC and that you wouldn't be able to fly planes.

To be honest I always found liberty city to be boring. GTA:3 and GTA:LCS(worst GTA game so far). I really hope this game is different. And I especially hope the music is better then the last LC games.duane27

well it would be better with planes anyway           if only this was ps3 exclusive.....it would be much better, much bigger, much longer..........in short, the xbox360 shortened the game imo

I'm not suprised. This is their first venture into next gen. Look how small GTA3 was? Just expect the spin offs or 5 and 6 a few years down the road to be bigger, once they get better knowledge of the system.

Don't ever count on next gen. GTA to be any bigger than GTA:IV unless the next games are PS3 exclusive. GTA:IV is as big as it'll ever be due to the capacity limitations of DVD... 

-The game might still have planes. All it said in the article was that you couldn't fly planes to other cities. So you can probably still get planes and fly them around Liberty City. Let me know if I am wrong.

-I'm betting that the Liberty City they are designing is going to be a completely different Liberty City than from past games. The old ones never included copies of famous New York landmarks. Everything could be different. 

watup everyone. i see everyone is disappointed on how its limited to liberty city, but we gotta remember that this is GTA 4. Its meant to be a follow-up of GTA 3. so maybe its meant to continue some of what gta 3 presented and more. and who knows, rockstar is known to surprise us at last meant. maybe they will throw in a bunch of previously unseen features. or maybe they are focusing on bringing incredible realism to the game as far as AI. thats one thing that was deeply lackin. how much funner would GTA be with much smarter NPC's. think about that. as far as graphics and visuals, we need not worry. the trailer already proved that the game will be a beatufil game.

Liberty City is going to be dark, and dingy and compared to the fun in the sun that was San Andreas, this is overall clearly going to be a much more serious title, which is something I don't think a GTA game should ever be

To my eyes at least, it's looking like San Andreas > IV in everything but the graphical aspects
