I Was wondering what people who have played both games prefer nowadays. At first, I thought SR2 blew GTA IV away with all the crazy stuff you can do. There was a ton of content, customization, weapons, etc. But after starting a new game of GTA IV a few days ago, I'm really starting to appreciate it again for how awesome of a game it is. The story, cover system, euphoria system, graphics, physics, driving, and realistic qualities are vastly superior.

I guess after playing both and giving them both time, I guess GTA IV would win out for me. I really liked Saint's Row 2, but after you get past the craziness of some of the missions, the glaring flaws reveal themselves in spades. GTA IV might not be as crazy as SR2, but the world is so much more alive and vibrant. While I still like both games very much for both of their unique qualities, I must say that GTA IV beats SR2.

What one do you appreciate more now (preferably people who have played both)?

I found saints row to be suprisingly good considering all the hype that GTA gets whenever they bring a new one out. Ok so Saints row it a bit gangtsa happy, but small things like customizing your characters, health regeneration (which wins the vote for me), able to see police on your map so as to avoid when being chased, and the humor just stands out a bit from GTA.

Don't get me wrong i have the whole GTA collection and loved every one of them, but saints row changed my point of view, GTA has much better graphics and the like, and if it had those things i mention above it would no doubt win it for me!

If saints row had GTA's graphics and the reality, it would be a fantastic game!

I like Saints Row 2, it's fun, you can customaize a whole heap and it has fun minigames. However It felt a little too over the top for my taste. It was fun no doubt but It felt shallow in the story and personality department. So Grand Theft Auto 4 gets my vote because I actually got more sucked into that game then Saints Row 2 thanks to the realism, in-depth story and characters.

I like them both equally, though.

Never played SR2. But GTAIV is my fav GTA ever. And I loved the game. Reading this topic makes me want to throw it back in and start over again. The intro music to GTAIV is like the sweetest music to a game ever.

Saints Row 2 is sooooo BAD....GTA SA is waaay better. The driving in Saints Row 2 is like in the godfather game. It has no physics and the handling is like a go cart...WTF.

Yeah, I had a blast with online co-op. But GTA still owns it's little soul.

I do prefer Saints Row 2. Better soundtrack, can costumize character, and more hardcore stories (good acting too!). GTAIV es better in graphics, though.

Saints Row 2 is San Andreas next gen. SR2 blows GTA4 out of the water.

I played GTAIV, both endings, and liked it a lot. But I only liked it while playing the story. Without context, I found GTAIV to be bland. The city is huge, but empty. Saints Row 2 is a little rougher around the edges in terms of animation and polish, but there's so much to do within the city and so much little things that even when you're not playing the story, you can MAKE your OWN context, which is why it gets my vote. You can pick up fellow Saints on the fly in parts of the city you've taken over. If there's not enough room in your ride for your entire crew, your buddy will carjack someone and follow you to the far edges of the city. You can jump on any car at any time and car surf it for a little boost in respect. Getting tired of that goatee? Change up your look. While you're there, why don't you try out a new fighting style? On your way back to your hideout to start a new mission you come across the insurance fraud diversion. There's just always something to do in the city. You really can't say the same for GTAIV. Play some pool? Sure, I liked that for a while. Take your buddy for a drink? And by drink I mean take them to a building you can't go inside, watch a black loading screen, and then fumble your way back home avoiding the cops trying to book you for DUI. I liked both games, but Saints is just more fun.

Campaign co-op, I mean, not co-op missions.

I've played those over and over.

Saints Row 2. A LOT more fun than GTA4 and it has a ton more customization, vehicles, types of guns, missions, building to buy, and a type of income off retailers. It doesn't matter if a game has good graphics if it's no fun... SR2 looks good though, especially the explosions!

Neither, I played them both and got quickly bored with them equally. I'm not too into open world sand-box games anymore, with the exception of a few RPGs.

While I think Saints Row 2 is a very fun game filled with crazy "lol" moments, it's no GTA IV.

GTA IV, in my opinion, is the undisputed king of the genre. It's got it all: the best city, the most detail, the best characters, voice actors, story, animation, physics, graphics...everything. Sure, some hated the fact that GTA went "realistic", but I just don't see how.

Rockstar made a masterpiece with GTA IV, and it's sad that some can't take the time to truly appreciate what Rockstar accomplished. Even if you don't care for the game all that much, being able to appreciate what Rockstar accomplished shouldn't be hard.

Saints Row 2 is a great time. There's a lot of fun stuff to do, and I really do have a ton of fun when I play it. That being said, GTA IV is king in my book.

I voted both. I love GTA but I tried SR and it was very very cool to play. I also sincerely don't find them really comparable since, yes, in both you have free roaming and kill people but they take a completly different path. GTA is way more realistic while SR is purely arcade.
