I got a Fat 80 GB on Xmas 2008, Ive now got 19 games and Ive gone from 74 GB's to 40 GB. I don't know how many years the PS3 will last and I'm wondering do you think 40 GB's is more than enough to keep me covered or do I need to consider upgrading the Hard Drive (something I'm not really confident doing)?

I don't really get anything for the PS3 (movie, music downloads etc.) other than games...but with games like Mass Effect 2 seeming to take up quite a bit of memory I felt I needed to ask for your advice...thanks :)

Best for your money would be the:

500gb

2.5 inch

5400 RPM

SATA Hard Drive

Either Seagate or Western Digital, whatever you can find on newegg.com with those specs in mind. I think they're only like $60 too. I wasn't confident when i thought about switching HD's the first time too, its actually very simple, theres guides on Youtube that take you step by step. I hope that answered your question.

Technically, you don't really need a new HDD.

80GB is plenty if you don't mind cleaning some of the old game data files for new ones.

Honestly however, for 60$ you can get Western Digital 500GB, transfer all the files from old HDD and enjoy all the space until PS4 comes out and beyond.

Why limit yourself only to games files when you can put everything you want. :)

THe price of a HDD is not going to change as far as being more expensive, i would not force the change until your at a point where it really matters. Once you get to like 10GBs left then maybe start looking. I deleted demos, some save files for games i did not have anymore and it cleaned up 10GB pretty quick so try that first

I have a 40GB and it works just fine with the amount of games I play. I don't toggle between 20 games every month so I'm content, even with the large installation sizes.
