For those of you who have replaced their hdd for a little more capacity was it fairly easy? Do I need to transfer any software to the new drive? Lastly, does the rpm matter or can it be either 5400 or 7200?

Thank you for your time.

It's best to stick with a 5400 RPM drive- using a faster drive will supposedly cause a bit more heat inside. As for ease to do, the tricky bit is getting the screws holding the drive in the tray to come out (they are somewhat soft metal and in there very tightly). You'll need to be careful and be sure to use the right sized screwdriver for the job. I kinda did things the easy way- i phoned Sony and arranged for them to send me a new drive tray and screws and put my new drive on it, then make the quick switch. Then, if something happens that requires me sending the system in just a simple switch back.

The only things you will want to back up are your game saves- purchased stuff can be re-downloaded for no charge in the store via the download list and games will have to do their install (if required) anyway, along with any updates due to the switch.

A quick question for you, how much GB did you get to work with? I know the PS3 takes some space from the HD, in my case I got 55 GB of the 60GB model. So how much GB does it take from a 320GB model?

I had about 232GB left on my 250GB after the install.

And yeah, getting the screws out is the hardest bit. So annoying  It's easy once you've got them out though, because you don't have to put them in so tight.

well strangely.. i bought a 320gb hard drive, but i only had about 280gb to work with for some reason.. heh. Still, not complaining with 280.
