So last night I am fraggin online with Modern Warfare 2 and suddenly my screen turns all glitchy (like when a TV station loses signal and it has all the colors on the screen except this one was like brown and black. Then my PS3 turns off. Now it won't turn on. I press the on button, it turns green for a second, then it goes yellow for a second, then turns off and stays blinking red.

So...I am assuming my system overheated and bricked, yes? I can just go buy a new one but I have a few problems.

One. My Call of Duty is still inside. I want it out. Even if I just hit eject nothing comes out.

Two. I have a 250GB HDD and I would like to put it into my new PS3. Do I have to format it? Will I lose all my data? I am wondering if I can just put it in and skip the formatting thus keeping all my data.

Three. Instead of buying a new slim should I just repair this one? Do you know how much that will cost? Im out of warranty this console was an orginal launch (PS2 compatible). If so will they return the game to me? Will they delete my memory?

If you can anser any or all of these questions that would be of help.

Sounds like the YLOD... 1) I think there is a way to make the system eject the disc, not sure though 2) Im pretty sure its required to format the HDD when you put it into a new system. You would lose all you saves but not your psn account and trophies 3) It would probably cost you $150 to send to sony, you may or may not get the game back, your memory may still be there if you get your system back and not a refurbished one.

You definitely have YLOD.

1. I'm not sure how you take a game out when you have YLOD but I'm sure there are techniques & instructions on to extract your game if you do a bit of searching on the net.

2. I'm wondering the same also. My 60GB died again for the 2nd time with the dreaded YLOD & I'm just going to buy the new Slim but I am also wondering if I can put my 320GB HD in the new model & be able to use the saved data. So far, it seems as if it will be formatted once installed in a new model which really blows.

3. That is up to you. I did my repair through Gopher Mods instead of going through Sony but as I said above, I just got the YLOD for a 2nd time. I'm still under their 60day warranty but my efforts of calling & emailing the company has been in vain so far. I haven't had any response at all & it has been nearly a week. I'm pretty sure they are avoiding me. I wouldn't recommend Gopher Mods at all. If they don't respond by this week's end, I'm going to report them to the BBB. Try with Sony for $150 & have it fixed that way or just fork over $300 & get a new & hopefully improved system.

So I found that the Gilsky method is pretty effective for repairing the YLOD. Interestingly enough, I have seen that quite a bit of people have got it will playing Modern Warfare 2. I think for now I will attempt the repair so I can get all my save data, back it up and buy a Slim. Dont really need the PS2 backwards compatibility.

That happend to me. Cost me $125 to fix out of warranty. (1 year) They got me the same model PS3 back to me within a week of my initial shipment, but I lost all the data, which sucked beyond words. You will get your game back... there's a blank on the form where you tell them which game is in the console, and they will send it back to you when your console arrives. You COULD remove the HD and put in another one, but this may void the warranty, so if your console was purchased within the last year, I wouldn't do that. If it's over a year, though, I would try to get a small compatable HD, swap out the old drive and keep the one with your data on it, and put in the empty new one. Then when you pay and get your old one refurbed, you could install the old one, transfer the data elsewhere, then install the 250. After that's up and running, you could migrate the old data you transfered earlier onto the new one. A huge hassle, but maybe your only option. Just know that if you send it in to Sony, any data you had is history.

Was there plenty of ventilation? Because I think people don't give their systems plenty of space out in the open.
