ya my ps3 was turning on but it wouldn't show up on my tv, i then tried using the rca cables that come with the ps3 and i held the power button until it switched to the rca's. i was hoping that is wasn't my tv or ps3 and it was just a bad cable, so i went out and bought a new one right away which was stupid. it ended up being something random all i did was unplug the power cable out of the back of the ps3 for like 10 minutes then plugged it back in, it ended up working, i dont know if you have tried this simple task but it worked for me, hopefully it works for you

I have a problem with my TV and I'm waiting for the technician. It's pretty similar to yours, the screen turns black. At first, I thought the PS3 could have been the problem since I was only having problems with the PS3, but that's because I spent most of my time on the TV playing the PS3, since later, it happened 3 times with cable and 3 times with a DVD player..

The only way to bring back the screen was to shut down the TV and reopen it.

A good way to test if your TV or the PS3 is the problem, once the screen goes black, try raising the volume. On every TVs, a bar or number will show up. If you don't see it, it's the TV that stopped showing the image, not the PS3 that stopped sending it.

I had this issue as well, but only when I played PSone games. I was told in another thread that it's my TV but my TV still displays "no signal" when this happens. My TV is a 40" 1080p Samsung LNT 4061FX. I have still been unable to find any known issues with my HDMI port while doing a search.

I can use component cables and I never get any issues. And to be honest, I don't see much of a difference between the two.

If you see No Signal, the problem is either the PS3 or the cable, not the TV.

And PS1 games would look better with components or composites. They weren't made to be played in HD. But you can simply go in your PS3 settings and change it to 480i, that's how PS1 games were made to be played, so they'll look as bad as they should. Seeing low res textures in hi-res makes it look bad.

I'll have to test out another cable and if possible another PS3 some time.

With the smoothing feature, I actually find the PS3 improves the old PSone games quite a bit over the old composite connections.

I know this post goes back to 2007, but is the same time I shelled out $600 for a PS3 that the GD HDMI port stopped working after 1 year. Now is componet cables for me and sucks! 1 YR warrantee on this type of equipment is BS. Sony should stand behind their product.

I took PS3 to Gamestop and they could not get to work with new HDMI cables and was told the port was bad and about $200 to fix.

I have an HDMI problem as well, but it's the TV. Sometimes I get the black screen "unsupported signal" message when I get into a game or quit a game, but what I do is just change the TV input with a remote control and go back to the right input, bam, I get the picture again.

hi everyone, having the same problem as everyone else... i own a ps3 slim and the hdmi connection was working until about two weeks ago, i was mixing between a 46" and a 22" tv and it was working perfectly, then when i got back to university tried to connect it to a 26" tv and all of a sudden the connection won't work, I've tried other hdmi cables but nothing, the TV notices something is there but no image is shown... any help?
