Because I'm wondering if a JPN PS3 will work in NA.

I've heard of people having problems with outlets and power usage with systems that come from different countries.

My friend has a ps3 from Japan, the only thing that is different it that the circle becomes x. And vice versa.

No other problems though.

Works with every game in S.A. Not sure about NA though?

It'll work fine, both countries use the same voltages and w/e. On the other hand, the console will only load region 3 blu-ray movies (if the movie is region locked). Games are fine though, they're all region free :).Also,O is X on the asian playstations, it'll be that way in any region 3 game and in the xmb. Hope this helped.

I have an american PS3 in the UK, which doesn't help you much - but it works fine, no problems, no YLOD, no nothing...

I lived in America for about 6 months and got my PS3 (and HDTV) over there. I use a step-up transformer over here just to be on the safe side (america = 110V, India = 220V). My HDTV works fine w/o any add-on though. You shouldn't have too much of a problem.

Thanks very much, that does help.

And thanks to everyone else. Added opinions are always a plus.

I'm importing the Lightning Edition Slim, but it doesn't come out until next month so I guess that doesn't help you right now :P But Japan and US both use the same voltage, both are NTSC if you're playing in SD, and both are Region A for Blu-ray so the only difference would be that it can't play Region 1 DVDs.

EDIT: Didn't know X and O were switched so that's a nice heads up for me but I guess I'm not really surprised since it was like that for Japanese PS2s and PSPs also.

Why would you need to get a JPN console? PS3 games are region free

No, you absolutely cannot play Japanese PS3s in North America, Scianix. Scary men will come to your door, drink all the milk in your fridge, and then repossess your PS3 after paying for damages. But if you can get away with it, you'll be able to enjoy a Japanese PS3.

it does look rather nice. It's a shame that other regions generally get lower quality special editions

That is exactly why. Old PS3 YLOD = brand new FFXIII PS3 Slim.

Thanks a lot, that really helps. It comes with a controller, but I was planning to sync my old DS3 to it also, but I guess not anymore. Hey, if that's the case with controllers, though, will I have the same problem with a blue tooth headset?

I'm not too sure if the region of the controllers matter. I've heard of many people importing controllers from Japan and use them just fine with American PS3s so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around. Good choice on FFXIII Slim too. I've already got mines preordered so I can't wait until it gets here :D
