Because I'm wondering if a JPN PS3 will work in NA.
I've heard of people having problems with outlets and power usage with systems that come from different countries.

It'll work fine, both countries use the same voltages and w/e. On the other hand, the console will only load region 3 blu-ray movies (if the movie is region locked). Games are fine though, they're all region free :).Also,O is X on the asian playstations, it'll be that way in any region 3 game and in the xmb. Hope this helped.

I won my first ps3 a 60g.. it was from japan... i did not have to buy anything special to make it work.... but i could not play ps2 games cause of the region lock... but it playing all blu ray movies and games from NA with no prob.... well until my blu ray drive went out... Thanks very much, that does help.
And thanks to everyone else. Added opinions are always a plus.
I'm importing the Lightning Edition Slim, but it doesn't come out until next month so I guess that doesn't help you right now :P But Japan and US both use the same voltage, both are NTSC if you're playing in SD, and both are Region A for Blu-ray so the only difference would be that it can't play Region 1 DVDs.
EDIT: Didn't know X and O were switched so that's a nice heads up for me but I guess I'm not really surprised since it was like that for Japanese PS2s and PSPs also.

Why would you need to get a JPN console? PS3 games are region free[QUOTE="Scianix-Black"]Why would you need to get a JPN console? PS3 games are region freeBecause I'm wondering if a JPN PS3 will work in NA.

Maybe he wants that gorgeous FFXIII PS3 Slim. I know I'm getting it!
No, you absolutely cannot play Japanese PS3s in North America, Scianix. Scary men will come to your door, drink all the milk in your fridge, and then repossess your PS3 after paying for damages. But if you can get away with it, you'll be able to enjoy a Japanese PS3.hazelnutman
Oh no! Not the milk! We gotta hide the milk before they drink it all.

it does look rather nice. It's a shame that other regions generally get lower quality special editionsMaybe he wants that gorgeous FFXIII PS3 Slim. I know I'm getting it!

That is exactly why. Old PS3 YLOD = brand new FFXIII PS3 Slim.

lol, I don't live in Canada.
I read in a differant topic about a guy who had an asian PS3 and he had a problem conecting an american controller to it. You just got to make sure you get asian controllers too
gregbmil
Thanks a lot, that really helps. It comes with a controller, but I was planning to sync my old DS3 to it also, but I guess not anymore. Hey, if that's the case with controllers, though, will I have the same problem with a blue tooth headset?

I'm not too sure if the region of the controllers matter. I've heard of many people importing controllers from Japan and use them just fine with American PS3s so I don't see why it wouldn't work the other way around. Good choice on FFXIII Slim too. I've already got mines preordered so I can't wait until it gets here :D
